First of all, apologies in advance to those of you who live in snow country.
It is a gorgeous day here, probably close to 70 degrees F. (21 C. approximately), crystal clear, slight breeze and everything Ireland green due to all the rain we've had. So I decided to have lunch at the lake.
I'm supposed to stay off my stoopid foot, so I drove to Taco Bell, got some lunch, drove to Aquatic Center's parking lot and then walked to the lake..
I've eaten lunch there before, usually sandwiches, and the geese haven't bothered me. Today one of the gray geese (most of the geese there are Canadian geese) came running on over and started honking.
Well you're not supposed to feed the wildlife, and I know that bread can be bad for them, but I'm a softie, and I had dropped some lettuce and tomato from my taco. So anyway, I gave a few little bits to Mr. Goose.
Maybe it's just because it's winter and pickings are slim, but when I've gone there in the past with sandwiches the geese have never bothered me. I show up with Taco Bell and this silly goose was practically right in my face.
Must have been a Mexican goose!

I'm not sure he can fly now. He's pretty fat.
We had two gray geese on my street when I moved in. Somebody must have been feeding them, but they did make a mess on the sidewalks. One day they were gone. I've often wondered if the two gray geese at the lake are the same two that used to be in my neighborhood.

I thought maybe "your" goose was a health-nut who only liked his veges, but since you say he was fat, maybe he is indeed a fast-food freak - or a Mexican goose.
No apologies needed here - if we ever have snow I'll be laughing! We are in the middle of summer and it is VERY humid. We've had some cooler days while it has been raining (very welcome and needed rain) but now the rain has stopped, the humidity has soared.

I expect we'll be seeing a lot more rain before summer, but at least it doesn't really get humid here. Did I mention that California was paradise?
No doubt Mr. Goose would have happily eaten any part of my meal. Well maybe not the hot sauce...

hi dawnald geese just do not like me, they come honking and grab the flesh on the calf of my let and snap, ouch horrid. we went one time to this mansion in Arizona my hubby and I to deliver phone books. we used the loud speaker and some disembodied female voice said drive on through. you are phone book deliverers? yes we said so we drove on through and as we went to get the phone books this guard goose goosed me hard. My husband, the traitor was too busy laughing at fresh to help me but then the gooses mate attacked him, zowie right in the calf of his leg. a maid came running out, called these honking meanies by names and they left us alone. We both had bruises on our legs and we literally just dumped the phone books onto the maid and drove out of there.'My hubby said he was going back there one night with his rifle, and I said no no, they would arrest you for shooting their quard geese.so he never did. but he was not laughing when he got goosed at all. Oh my gosh sorry Dawn it just hit me about the Mexican goose,he he heh he.

At least the geese didn't try to snog you! :-)
Geese are notoriously mean, although I have never had a run in with one.

Cute but I must admit if Mr Goose was in my face as I was trying to eat my lunch I would be a little scared, can they peck you? I don’t know…Can they? Clearly this goose is from Mexico and he is here checking out the scene and seeing how much food is around and he will probably send for the rest of the family! We have a lake near our place and there are ducks there which I love to watch; we have signs forbidding us to feed them anything which is a shame but I’m sure there is a good reason for it.

I have a cat that is a Mexican cat. We are allowed to feed our ducks and geese at the in town water features. If we didn't they would flog us anyway. White swans are really meanies as well. I hope your feet get to feeling better. Do you take any vitamins or supplements?

Years ago in Ida Grove, IA we stopped and had a picnic in a park with a big lake, army helicopter statue and a pizza hut on the one edge of the lake. The lake had huge swans, geese and ducks and picnic tables and grills dotted through the park. It wasn't long when a big white swan decided he wanted my daughter's bologna sandwich and chased her around the park until she finally gave it to it and then it left her alone.

I've heard that swans can be pretty mean too. We don't really have them here though.

Hi dawnald,
our snow have all gone but we have the rain now, today it has been very wet and cold, I think in future, it better be Mexican food for the goose, it brought a smile to my face, lol!

Are Mexican geese more friendly than Canadian geese? Or was it because you were eating Mexican food? Maybe it was just a smart goose who had tried that trick before and knew it worked? Birds are a lot smarter than the size of their brains would warrent. And just think of the calories you would save. Oh I finally get it, it was the calorie police in the form of a goose. Enjoy

I think this particular goose was just used to being fed. The Canadian geese are wilder...
Actually one of the gray geese has approached me a few times before, I just didn't have any food with me. Dunno why they left me alone the time I had sandwiches. Maybe it was the hot sauce.

Hello, Dawn. This reminds me of when we were in St Ives, Cornwall, England a few years back. My son had come to visit, and we all bought Cornish Pasties to eat on the way to the car. David had taken one bite out of his when a seagull swooped over his shoulder and knocked the pasty out of his hand, scratching David's neck in the process. Further along the seafront, another seagull did the same thing to a young lad eating an ice cream. Evil birds!

Hmmm... I read somewhere that the Taco Bell chihuahua passed on. Maybe they could test out that goose as their new spokescritter...
