I'm slack at playing my guitar!

I'm officially slack at playing my guitar! I've been an accoustic rhythm guitarist for about twenty years, but when you hear me play you wouldn't think so! I just lose interest sometimes, but I also suffer from injuries so it can hurt to play for a long period at a time. But I still should put aside half an hour a day to belt out my favourite tunes. How about you? Are you slack like me? That's it! I'm off to cut my fingernails!!

I dont know but yeah m slack too. But the great thing about playing any instrument is that you can just forget everything and play. And you can always show off infront of those who cant play.

Sounds good. I am a shy guitarist. You are probably quite good...?

I was a pro musician for around 20 years at the start of my working life. I used to play piano/keyboards every single night because I was contracted to do so. Now that I have retired from that business I find that it takes discipline to sit down and play, but I do so about 2 or 3 times a week. I will really have to start playing every day again because I have found how my fingers have stiffened up and won't go where I want them to as they use to do! _Derek

I guess when you sit down and get into it it really is enjoyable...sometimes I get frustrated with my lack of progress, which I guesss is caused by not playing regularly!...lol

Well maybe it will be enough to motivate you since you posted here. You will have to be accountable to us. We will expect you to polish that rustiness off and play beautiful music for us.

I can see how that may be a problem if you want to be a professional. I don't know if there are any secrets of the pros about the calluses (do classical guitarists have the same problem? Their three highest strings are not metal like the usual guitars) - For me, I press a few buttons on a keyboard once in a while, and I scratch a string or two on my violin, but it is just for the experience, to experience the sound I produce, for no reason other than for my enjoyment. If your aim is to please other people, well, there I'm no expert. What will it take for you to be satisfied with your playing? Perhaps you need some professional guidance? My violin lessons several years back were a little over $100 a month.

Well my guitarist husband is a guitar teacher, but he has given up trying to get me to play more. I write music and I do want to produce it so I know at some point in time I am ggoing to have to get down and dirty and focus on playing! Maybe just now is not the time...

I've been playing piano for 15 years but still I'm still lacking in playing it! And yeah, sometimes I just feel lazy to practice because I prefer sitting in front of the computer.. huhu. But for someone like you who play for twenty years, I'm sure your are really good! it's only that maybe you need something to boost your confidence and interest ^^

I married a musician, but it didn't up my interest any. I think it's purely dicipline I need.

When do you feel slacking at playing the guitar? If you just begin slacking ,you are much better than me. I have learnt to play the guitar for only 2 years and now i spend the practice time in surfing the Net...Maybe sometimes, the computer is more attractive than the guitar...

the computer definately holds my interest more than guitar!! My fanatic guitarist friends don't understand!-unless they have both addictions. They are quite addicted to their guitar playing!
