This is mostly to the folks in Texas as it concernes the upcomming governors race. SO far there are two main stream candidates, Perry (republican insider) and Hutchison (a democrt insider). And THEN there's Debrah Medina. Now, I had heard her name before in passing and didn't give much thought to it. However after reading a thread in another forum about her, I went digging a bit. I was totaly blown away by what I found. I watched a bit of a debate between her and the two mainstream candidates and I must say, she handed BOTH of them their own assses on a silver platter. She seems to me to be a genuine constitutional concienensious and liberty minded candiate. I like her concept of genuine property ownership and seems to have an actual workable plan to eliminate the property tax system in favor of a more broad based sales tax. This was signifigant, very signifigant. Right now, NO ONE actually owns property except for the government because of the property tax system. You can have paid all your land off decades ago and still lose YOUR property for non payment of property taxes...it is a feudel system of false ownership.
I love her stance on state soviergnty (no, she's not really a secessionist). she seems like she would stand up the the federal government and fully use the power of the state to reign in an out of control DC.
she would use not only the Texas national guard but would call up the Texas STATE guard to guard the Mexican border and put a real stop to ilegal immigration.
I don't live in Texas and as such, perhaps I don't have the right to interfere in an election there. But I would urge people down there to at least look further in to this woman. to me, SHE is what a governor should be.
So texans, what are your thoughts?

Oh no you don't. I called her first.
After all...mine is worse than yours...mine is Mark Sanford...yep THE Sanford. You know the one who took of to Argintina to see his mistress...abandoning the stae, then after he got caught in the affair...told the whole world how his mistress (not his wife) was his "soul mate".
If Texas does not want her....SC gets first dibs. Heck look at the rest of our state...we have Joe "you lie" Wilson, Lindsey (RINO) Graham, and Jim "grand standing" DeMint. We need a break here. We need at least ONE decent politican working for this state.

You should watch the SNL skit on Joe Wilson's "You lie" bit. As the republicans are trying to console him one asks "What state are you from?" When he says South Carolina they all hang their heads before one says "Hey, that's not the worst answer, I think we can agree Alabama is the worst" Then when he says the only thing he's ever fought for was the confederate flag, the guy says "Ok, now that is worse than being from Alabama."

Ah, finaly someone from Texas. So what is it about White you find apealing and what is it about Medina that you don't? Man, I would give my left nad to have a gubenitorial candidate like Medina. We had one libertarian candidate in our last one...and I voted for her. Unfortunatly we got stuck once again with Lynch, who might just as well work for the federal government.

Something from White's blog stood out to me. Comenting on a recent debate, he had this to say:
"Much of the debate consisted of complaints about the federal government, rather than solutions for Texas. I agree with some comments about federal intrusion, but under the Constitution the Governor of Texas does not control the federal government. Under Governor Perry, the State of Texas has time and time again imposed mandates cities and counties, and as Governor that is something I'd stop" .
I agree that the state should ease up on mandates to the towns and counties, very much so in fact. It is good to see white has promised to stop this.
True, the constitution does not specificly grant this power to a state government..however, it IS in fact the responsability of the goveror of a state, and the rest of the state government, to inculate against unconstitutional federal intrusion when it has gone to far. The states were the creators of the federal government, it was created to be an agent of the states and should be kept reigned in by the states when it gets out of line. We certainly can't rely on the federal government to reign itself in anymore, so who else does that leave to do it? I firmly believe in the power and soviergnty of our states and I expect and demand my state government use this power to maintain it.

There is a system in place to automatically reign in the federal government its called the constitution and the system of checks and balances. Every state has representatives in the federal government. The state concentrates on the day to day needs of the people through county government and municipalities. The federal government concentrates on the needs of the whole country which or may not always coincide the the needs of the state or entities within a state.
The state concentrates on insurance, utilities, education, etc.
The federal goverment concentrates on national security, trade, foreign relations with other countries. The state governments help to create them directly to help assit and perform those needs for the USA as a whole. States from time to time to protect the interest of the individual state or more likely particular interest of the state propose to secede or some other cocamamy thing when they dont get their way.
Bill White is a practical man and looks at a situation and adjust and do the best he can. The same must be said for President Obama except for his rhetoric or lack therefore on some national security issues he has been right on point. Health Care will find a way to pass and we will all change continuing little by little until it becomes part of the stream of our everyday lives.

Interesting thing Texas is one of the biggest states in the union but I do not know of any Texans here on the political page of MyLot. Maybe there is but I do not know. The reason I am responding is because I love your point about property tax system. That is an awesome statement.
