Comparisons between the Linux and Windows computer operating system are a common topic of discussion among thir users. Both windows and linux have lot of merits and demerits.Currently windows is by far the most popular proprietary personel computer operating system, while linux is the most prominet free software operating system. In the case of user friendly windows is best and based on security linux is best.I think linux is the best operating system because linux have lot of security features and freeware but implementation is very defficult compare to windows.I think operate linux require good professional knowlodge. What is your opinion? which is best operating system windows or linux?

I like to use Windows much more because Linux is difficult and complex for me. And I think not many software supports it. Windows is still the most popular operating system so far. So I don't want to use another complicated operating system.
I love China

I think both have their strengths and weaknesses. Windows is the widely operating system in the world. It's easy to learn, and the user interface has improved vastly with the recent launch of Windows 7. However, Microsoft products seem to be the constant targets for hackers and viruses. Linux, on the other hand, is open-source, free operating system, the most well-known being Ubuntu. It has pretty nice and useful user interfaces, and there's virtually no need to install any kind of antivirus software. However, the learning curve is steeper, and users have to know terminal commands to be more productive.

I prefer Windows to Linux because every disk I buy works fine with Windows. I like to use Firefox with Windows Vista on my laptop. I use Internet Explorer with my net book. I think that security features are wonderful with Linux. It is necessary to make sure a Windows operated machine doesn't get viruses. I like the way Windows works but I have experienced using Linux. I didn't find Linux easy to use. My oldest son has a laptop that is Linux operated and his disks don't work with it. I think he would be happier with a Windows operating system. He likes playing games and so he needs a more powerful and expensive machine. Interestingly my brother-in-law uses Windows XP and Linux on his net book. Linux is free and Windows costs quite a lot of money. Windows is popular and so that why disks are made to be compatible with it.

I have been using Windows for years and I must admit that my laptop gets infected frequently.. yeah, it's user-friendly but it's pretty annoying.. I have heard that Linux is way better compared to Windows as it has many security features.. but the problem is it is kind of difficult to use... if given a chance, i would like to try Linux is see if I can handle it or not.. you know, i'm fed up with Windows! i always need to reinstall the operating system to get rid of the annoying virus..

These both operating systems have their pros and cons. Windows is not open source while Linux is free to use. Windows is easier to use, linux is somehow complicated. Linux is best for its security. Windows is user-friendly. I think the best OS still depends on the applications you want to use in your computer. If you consider security, go for LINUX. If for flexibility, go for WINDOWS :)

I think Windows is far more easier to use than Linux, especially when you use so many softwares. Installing software on Windows is easier and faster, while I agree that Linux provides a more security environment. Most of the people don't know how to use command-line interface, that's why Windows is more popular than Linux. If I am not building a server, I will still stick with Windows although I gonna pay for it. It gives me the usability and flexibility whereas Linux doesn't.
Happy myLotting:)

Windows have been used with windows environment so they all think that Windows is still the best out there. In some sense it is still better since some programs that we like runs only on the Windows platform.
Security wise, I prefer Linux. First and foremost I have never experienced getting infected with a virus in Linux--i don't think it exists in Linux.. Because it has an open community of users so much of the programs that run on it are free. Bugs on certain programs are acted upon faster because most of them are open source and anybody can improve on it. The community is also very good since they are always ready to help you, specially if you're a beginner. And Lastly I use linux because I can still run windows programs on it.
They have started to improve the GUI so much that it's not only for advanced users with a know how in some programming language anymore. I use it and yet I'm only an average computer user.
The penguin is cute, too.
