My sister told me that when I was a kid, I had an imaginary friend. It was some sort of a little creature, and my behavior scared the hell out of her. It is normal to talk to yourself, but when you talk to imaginary people, it's weirder (and creepy). I am guilty of this in a way. LOL. I would imagine myself in a situation that's really vivid in my head, and there I would talk mentally. But before you get the wrong idea that I am mentally retarded or something, I just wanna clear that it's something that I do because I'm very dreamy and that way I maintain a close relationship to people that I wanna meet. Plain fantasizing. It's one thing that my family and friends don't know about me. Sorry for being weird.:( What about you? Do you? Or have you had an imaginary friend when you were a kid?

No, I don't have an imaginary friend. However, something weird does seem to happen to my son, going to 12 this year. Whenever, he does or decide something, he will say that the little man in his head told him so. It still happening and I hope it is is normal? There was one time when we had a conversation, and he blurted out loud, "Oh that was what my little man wanted to say!" I hope he refers the 'little man' as his inner thoughts and I hope no harm, although I sometimes worry about him.

Yes, it has been so when he was very young. Sometimes,I worry and often ask him has this little man asked him to do anything dangerous. My son would told me that he knows what is wrong and not wrong and that the little man just there to help him. So far, he does not show any abnormal behaviour, socially he is like other children and has many friends.

Reminds me of the movie "The Shining", where the little boy had an imaginary friend living in his mouth who told him what to do and what not to do. That is exactly an example of having an imaginary friend! Is this "little man" present ever since he was little?

I never had imaginary friends but i read that some people have had this sort of friends, you was not retarted but just in need of friends so you imagined it when you was little ^^. In the other hand, it could be a ghost or some invisibles creatures too lol xD [exit].

Uhm, no, I don't see ghosts. Those are purely imaginary. I have a few friends, and not all of them can really be considered friends, so I still feel alone. That's why I create some in my head, mostly celebrities.

I mean, I don't see anything like that visible. I believe in ghosts but I don't see one. Mine are just imaginary friends.

I know what you are saying! One of my kids, a preschooler at the time, had a bunch of little wooden people in his play-set.Once when he was playing I asked him to tidy them up. He was very involved with his play and just ignored me. I asked again and when he didn't respond I threatened to throw them all in the fireplace. (A fire was burning) When nothing happened, I began to gather these little wooden people up and toss them in the fire. When he saw what I was doing he went ballistic, and totally scared me right out of my mind. I quickly picked them right out of the flames, and, lesson learned! I never tried anything like that, on that child again.

I can imagine that situation. What has gotten into you and you just threw them to the fire? Kids love their imaginary friends so much that they would do anything to protect them.

Nope, I think I only talk to them when i was a child and even my younger nieces when she still have no sibling i often see her talking while playing alone. but, I think it is only normal when the child is only a single daughter in a family with no sibling to serve as her playmates. When she already have a sister she rarely play alone or talk in imaginary people or playmates. In my case as i become older i never talk to imagine other people around me as those who could see me would think that i am crazy so i never do it anymore, it;s kinda weird doing it every now and then..

One can still create an imaginary friend even if she/he has a sibling. I have a sister 7 years older than me. I also know a cousin of a cousin who have two sisters of the same age, and she still plays alone and talks.

The last time I can remember ever trying to communicate with an imaginary being was way back when I was three years old I remember being pushed along in my push-chair and imagining that an over-grown mouse was walking along beside me and talking to me. But in my defence, I was still very young

Wow, you still remember that? You have one vivid imagination there. An overgrown mouse? That's funny.

I don't talk to imaginary people but I talk a lot to myself. I don't talk out loud, just on my mind. I often do this when I'm alone so I wouldn't get bored. Maybe I just don't have a wild imagination.

Thank you for the response. We just can't talk to ourselves out loud especially when there are people around. We are aware of that. It's weird when you do it that way. :-)

Do you think it's common among elderly people? Because my grandmother's sister talks to herself when she's in the bathroom.

_i thought i was mentally ill at first--but it's not. we're just the same. _I think subconsciously, it's our way of letting out things that we really wanted to do but we never had a chance of being in that situation. Example is a dream of meeting a favorite celebrity... _when i was a grade 5 student--i'm never told this to anyone but now i'll do it. _I imagined that I was acting with Daniel Radcliffe. _aside from the fact that i once became infatuated to him--I am a frustrated actress. _I attended an acting workshop when I was in 4th Grade--and it had a great impact in my life. _supposedly, a producer was going to offer me an acting contract but my Mom stopped me from accepting it and told me that i should finish my studies first.(this might sound imaginary but it's not hahaha) _from that day on, i started imagining that I am acting with someone or singing in a concert playing my grand piano--only to find out that I am just inside my room playing my 5-octave-keyboard. LOL _i still talk with imaginary people, but i do it when i am sad. _unlike in my younger days that it is so frequent (thank God my parents never saw me doing that because that might be so disturbing for them.) :D

We're quite the same. I always daydream about celebrities, and I talk to them. I also wanna be an actress, but not here, I want it in Hollywood. Sometimes I imagine myself playing scary, mysterious characters in horror movies, like that kid in the movie "The Orphan". It's pretty normal for my personality, because I'm sort of a visionary, and I create an ideal world in my mind, so far from the real world I'm in. Nobody really knows about it. It's a secret. Thanks for the response, Hana. :-)

I don't remember if I had an imaginary friend, but I do know that I would sometimes act out as if I was in a play or a movie. And that meant I was imagining I was with people and I'd talk to them, in my head or out loud just the same. These days, I don't really talk to imaginary people, but I talk to myself sometimes. :)

Acting out feels good, especially when you're alone. It's your own shining moment when you know you can't take real-life shooting.
