Does a discussion need to have a question?

I have observed that most of the discussions here in mylot have questions in it. Is it really necessary to guide the people who make comments so that they would know what to say about it? Or is it like anything will do as long as you were able to express your feelings. Which is better? With questions or without questions?

It doesn't have to. There is no rule saying that discussions title or subject should be in question form or a discussion should have a question in it. It just happened that most of discussions have questions because it is more appealing to readers. If the readers see a question, the tendency for them is to answer. In my experience, most of my discussions are in question form and it can really get more responses than those discussions without question or not in question form. So I would say with question is really better than no question discussions.

Hi friend, As my friends already told you not necessarily , but I always take care to end my comments with a question mark thereby putting the ball in other's court. What do you say ? Other wise the discussion will end too soon. After all our goal is to make it as clear as possible so that we can reach to a final conclusion. Is not it?

Just a thought.. If it is favorable for a discussion to include a question so mylotters can respond to it easily, shouldn't all of those dicussions fall under the questions & answers category? Hmmm..

How would you know that the person is asking for comments if it wasn't a question? I find responding to discussions with questions easier because I know where to start with my comment. After that it's up to me if I'd like to ramble on. Like what I'm doing right now ;) Where are my emoticons? I'm excited to get them.

Also why am I afraid of owlings? Is it because his posts are long and he has an old guy for an avatar?.

@ abitcurious: I'm sorry if my posts are long! I'm afflicted with the need to post as good quality responses as I am able and sometimes that means typing at length . My avatar is me (actually it's a mirror image because I thought it better to 'look into' what I write rather than turn my back on it.) and I don't see myself as scary! I am sad when people say that they are afraid of me because that means that they might be reluctant to ask questions that I'd be glad to answer. It would be nice to feel that I was respected for what I write, however!

Yeah! That's a good idea to take out all the emotions. So maybe if there are more questions in the discussion then more emotions are also triggered so we tend to say more. I like that! =)

i may rather choosing the one "with questions" simply because it is the start of the discussions by simply questioning others.. how can be said as discussions without asking anybody and also making the discussions questionable can attrack the respondents "curious"...

Curiosity is good. I'd better start making those questions now. Thank you for that tip. =)

Not necessarily. I think as long as the heading sounds interesting for certain persons, they will check it out. For me, I search for topics and when it is soemthing that i can relate to, i'll share a thought or two ... eiher it be ended with a question mark, a period or with stretching points like this .... ( how do you call it by the way?)

No, it doesn't need to be in a form of a question, though it might help attract people to the discussions if they were. Because if people are attracted to the discussions they might just answer them, thus getting more responses! Happy mylotting!

I will say not necessary. For example, i just start a discussion about the songs that people play in their wedding party. See, i did not add any question mark on it. But i have admit that most of my discussion will ending with a question mark. haha , as long as people like it, i am fine with it!

I was thinking that way too so I thoughts questions are really not necessary. Thank you for the response. =)

I think it is better if it has a question so you can get responses. Responses are after all answer to questions. It's hard to say something to a particular discussion if the poster doesn't really want something from the readers.

Yeah! I suddenly realized that. Thank you for the comment. It makes me widen my mind about how to make more discussions, with the questions this time. =)
