I'm a student from Asia, and I'm learning English. I know it's long way to go for me to master a foreign language, but since I've already chosen it, I really want to stick to it till I can conquer it. And I've got this friend from a prosperous city of my country while I come from a remote county. She's English is really good, to some extent, this may due to her advantaged resources of language learning. I'm kind of envy her. Sometimes, I would tell myself that I can do as well as her, but the results always fail to flatter me. I think I do need some encouragements to keep me on.
What to disappoint me again is it almost take me half an hour to write down these words above. It seems that I really need to put much more attention to my language studying.

First of all may I ask if you have any kind of reading materials like magazines or books written in English in your place? And do you have television at home? The reason I ask about the books is that if you have reading materials written in English, then it might be a good idea to start reading them. Then if you have television at home, start viewing English channels only. The idea is to immerse yourself in the English language day in and day out. Additionally, if you have friends who can speak English then by all means talk to them in English at all times. I see that you have internet access where you are. The computer will be a big help too. Try to study English online, look for free English courses or just read anything on the internet that's written in English. Immerse yourself in the English language: read English, hear English, write English, speak English and you will get there!

You should be very proud of yourself!! The more you practice a foreign language, the easier it will become. I have heard many folks tell me that English is a difficult language to learn well since we don't have the same structure patterns as say the French do.
I think you will find many folks here at Mylot that will encourage you and you can practice and make some friends and earn a little money all at the same time! How cool is that?
Welcome to Mylot and Take care!!

Thank you so much. Just as you've said. Now that I have a wonderful place called Mylot to go, I shouldn't have complained about my lacking of resources. I should dedicate myself to this language and turly love learning it!

Very well said!! Tho turly should be truly. I had started to learn French in college and never mastered it. I did finish the class credits I needed but that was it. I think you might inspire me to get back into it once things settle down in my life abit. I would love to go to France one day and it would be so much more of an adventure if I could speak the language!
Learning a language that is so different from our native one is worth the time and effort I think. You hopefully will be able to find someone that you can practice conversing in English with. Since you now have mylot to help with written part!!
Good Luck !!! Be well!!

Hello friend, for a moment I thought you were English until you specified that English was not your language. As we are our own enemies, it is better that you find strength in that you are proud of which means be aware of what you are well at and as writing may be a bit consuming, read others as well. Once your eyes are used to picking up conversations, understanding them, looking up words, you will inherit those words internally and they will become part of your vocabulary. Do not give up! Find ways to use English to your advantage, sing, watch movies, read what you see anywhere and everywhere, even labels you find on your shampoo, food, etc. etc. You will succeed! Just don't forget your first language. :)

Awwww, take it from me your English is coming on leaps and bounds my friend. It's amazing that, even though it has taken you half an hour to write your words, you HAVE managed it. Please do not be discouraged. Be ENCOURAGED by the fact that you are doing well and try not to compare yourself with others. I am English so I know what I am talking about..oh, and welcome to MyLot.

For somebody not very good in English, you seem to be quite good! :) I am also learning English and everybody is helpful.
I wonder which television programs you get to watch in your country. But nowadays most of the English movies we get come with captions. For grammar, I am trying transcription. :) If you type some words while transcribing - invariably you will miss out somethings - so you will have to hear the sentence again and again - that way the sequence of letters gets fixed in mind I suppose. I use this method to get articles and prepositions. There is a website - mturk. You can try to use the transcription job works there. You can always return the hits after it has given you adequate exercise. :)

hi there! from where in Asia you are? i am also from Asian country, Philippines. English is not the language of our communication here, but you know what Filipino are also good in English. even those who do not finished their studies are good English.
your English is good. you should need to practice it. you can read English books and watched English movies. in that way your vocabulary will improve. and ofcource have self confidence because when you are nervous and being intimidated with the person you are talking to, you seemed to lose you English vocabularly and then rumbled your pronunciations. so just practice more. good luck.

hi~I'm from China. Last semester, a group of Philippine came to my school to have a visit. And we used English to communicate. I do find that their English is very good. Besides, thanks for your tips on learning English. Good Luck!!

It really doesn't matter if you master a language or not. What matters is that you learn it and own it so you could use it to express your opinions and views about something.
Who cares if you confuse those pronouns and verb conjugations. Language is for communication and it changes. English might be one of the most used language nowadays but there was a time it was much cooler if you knew how to speak in Spanish. Our needs as a growing society evolves and with that so does our language.
Good luck learning!!! As long as we thirst for knowledge, there are no boundaries.

HI, there! I totally agree with you! What you've said about the world's changing and the society is growing, that's definitely true. But since I've already set myself about to work, I still want to achieve something. Anyway, thanks for all!!!
