right now i find myself suffering from the winter blahs! while i have a lot of craft projects that i am working on and have been visiting the library a lot more these days, i still find myself feeling blah! spring is at least a couple of months away still too! how do you keep yourself from feeling blah during the last half (and coldest) part of winter? do you wear bright colours? shop for spring clothes? (there are tons in the stores already here where i live!) what do you do?

I'm tired of winter myself. I live in northern Canada so we have long cold winters. This year the coldest day has been -55 and we have had snow since early October. I have a few tricks to ward off cabin fever and the winter blues luckily. I enjoy building models and i have two remote control helicopters to fly in the living room. If that fails a nice hot bath and book is great for hiding away.

Just curious as to the area of Northern Canada, as to which you are! I grew up in the Chilcotin area....about 90 miles from Puntzi Mountain, and at Redstone, one winter it was minus 63! Ah, cabin fever, I remember those days, well! And what I don't miss is spring break-up and the frost heaves, that you can lose a dump truck in! Hope you have lots of wood..and a full-larder! Take care, keep warm..and Happy Flying! Cheers!

I live in Dawson Creek B.C and our main industry is oil of course. I have seen it colder and wish like heck that spring would hurry up.

I like to put on a jacket, go outside, and do my normal exercise routine. It's still really cold out, but I somehow make it though. i like to think of it as an active protest to the cold weather season known to all as winter. I refuse to be inside all the time. I'm an active body by choice. I used to feel sluggish all of the time, but I'm past that because of my desire to be healthy. I would make a picket sign or something, but I think Winter is illiterate, and wouldn't know what the sign said unles the tree squirrels started making a ruckus.

I'm struggling with that right now, too. Primarily because the wind is blowing, making it sooo cold outside! The sun is shining and I want to go out, but it's cold. Also, I didn't get any work today compounding the problem. Hot chocolate or herbal tea should pick me up soon. I watched fit TV this Am and there was a decent amount of dance routines, that always picks me up. I just wish I could go outdoors for more than to the mailbox and back without freezing because of the wind chill factor.

Fortunately we have days like yesterday that are crystal clear and pretty warm, so I don't get the winter blahs as much as people in colder climates. We are in for at least 5 straight days of rain now, so blah bla blah. I guess I'm going to catch up on my reading...

Winter in a cold, dark climate is no fun if you can't get outside and enjoy it. On sunny days, no matter how cold, I get outside for some sunshine and exercise. I also step up my vitamin intake through fruit and supplements. And winter is a perfect time to get some of those projects done. Getting something accomplished does wonders for your mood.

I am feeling the same way. Not having the sun come out makes you feel tired and depressed. I also have horses outside that want to be feed and I have to go out in the snow and rain and MUD so deep I can barely walk and feed them. I really want the ground to dry up. But I hear there is no chance of that for a while. And dogs muddy paws....oh boy will summer ever get here? I painted my walls and that kept me busy for a while. Mmmmmm...what else can I paint?

For me I love the Winter months and I am more happier and comfortable in the cold weather, maybe because I am heat intolerant and I don't feel the cold just the damn heat. It's the Summer I detest and for me I get SAD in June, July and August so I dread these 3 months of the year. So I feel blah in the Summer months. I always tend to stick with blues because that is a cool colour trouble is it's also boring. I tend to wear brighter colours in the Winter and white and blues in the Summer because they are cooler colours for me and don't show the sweat LOL

I am not in the best mood during the winter. No matter what, I hate it. I feel like my whole life is between home and work, nothing between. I don't have time for any art projects. I am tired and sleepy. I am waiting for Spring! HUGS

OMG..cher, I am almost embarassed to reply, as I don't wish to seem "smug!" We have had spring all winter...(except for one bout of snow..and a mini cold-snap) And a TORNADO! I am sure that you have seen/heard all the hype, as we are having an El Nino winter, and it is playing havoc with one of our Mountains, Cypress that is slated for several events for the Olympics! It is 10:13 a.m. right now..and it is 56F...13C! Daffodils are about 8-9 inches high, hyacinths are up..Irises are up, polyanthus blooming! This is one winter that I haven't had the blahs! Just emotional turmoil. Take care....and Cheers! P.S. I live on a small Island about 14 miles from Vancouver, B.C.!

I am sending you some warmth & sunshine! You really have been smacked HARD, by old man winter....I watch Global National, and shiver watching how you have been pummelled! Seems like you keep getting a NASTY blast from the Midwest of USA! And I guess you get some Northern Fronts down thru Hudson's Bay, too? We need some winter....but not as much as you, for the Olympics. Whistler is fine...but Cypress has no snow base. We had ONE winter like this, many...many years ago...I think 1985..and then we got smucked very hard the last of February and all thru March! I do have piles of mulch and grass clippings standing by....just in case! When the weather is nice like this...it is so compelling to be outside, so I too, have my envies, as all my winter crafts...are still tucked away! I caretake a home, here on Galiano, that is owned by folks in Toronto...and I bet they wish they were here! Keep warm...take care & Cheers!

Reading from the responses of people who have winter season in their places, I kind of feel fortunate that I live in a tropical place where the climate is fair most of the time. The scorching heat of the sun can be very dehydrating, believe me, but I'd rather bask under the sun than be exposed to extremely cold temperatures especially for someone like me who just hates it. You might want to visit our place. Philippines. Just in case you are interested that is.

This is my first experience of winter as I used to live in a country where ther was no winter but I think the harsh part of winter is over cause I am hoping it is but overall its okay except for the chills.
