Every year the Vietnamese people celebrate their new year by making traditional rice cakes which is made of glutinous rice or also known as sticky rice, mung beans, fruit and/or meat. The cake is in turn wrapped around banana leaves which is steamed until the beans are soft. These can last for a long time (up to one month) of which you can eat as a dessert or entree. They call these Banh Tet or Banh Chung. Google it to see pics of it. Have any of us tried these? If so, where, with whom and did you like it?

hi hatley, that's awesome, I visited Little Saigon in the fall of 2008 and I will never forget it. The food there is amazing almost authentic I have to say. I say that because I have been to Vietnam and the food there is *silence* indescribable. That's the part of the culture I cannot do without - the food. If you do get around to one of the food shops, especially the bakeries, ask them if they have Banh Tet or Banh Chung for sell. They might range from $6+. As that might be too much see if they have any sliced already.
