Hello guys, specially PINOY mylotters. Critics dismissed Philippine Senator Simeon "NOYNOY" AQUINO III as an opportunist just riding on the famous names of his parents, the beloved former president Cory Aquino and his martyred father, the late Senator NINOY AQUINO. Obviously he was not on the radar screen of presidentiables then before the death of his mother. He was not even sure then of what position he will be running in 2010. The political equation just changed abruptly before and after her mother's burial. We have been overtaken by events so fast and saw fellow Senator MAR ROXAS step aside and forget his presidential ambitions in favor of NOYNOY. Issues regarding his real intentions, his track record as a congresman and a senator of the republic were raised. Recently released opinion surveys still placed him ahead of his closest rival Senator Manny Villar in a field of ten candidates. What made Filipinos think he is the guy? How about you guys? Is he deserving to be our next president?

Yes, because good parents are often a good foundation of a man's character. I know that Noynoy will carry on what his parents had started and that is to uplift the lives of Filipino people. Long live, Noynoy, and the best of luck to you and the Philippines! Mabuhay!

There is no gauarantee however that if his parents were good public servants, Noynoy would do the same. The best Noynoy can do is to show to the entire Filipino nation that he is not only a shadow of his illustrious parents but a leader of his own creation.

I will likely vote for Noynoy but I haven't made up my mind yet. But I want to be careful about making assumptions based on someone's parents. Kids don't always turn out like their parents, no matter how good an upbringing the parents tried to provide. there is much hope in Noynoy though. The reason i want to be wary of automatically someone is a specific way by virtue of their parents is that I don't want to do it on the negative side too. Like for example, are we to assume that the ampatuan children (as in those really young right now) will grow up to be warlords like their elders? Kawawa naman sila diba. We have to evaluate Noynoy as his own man.

This is from a former deputy secretary-general of the ASEAN, it might help his case: http://noypi-ako.com/noynoy-aquino-is-the-most-competent-and-credible-candidate-to-be-the-next-president-of-the-philippines/ I was never impressed nor put off by his pedigree. The sad this about him is that there are voters who would vote for him simply because of that while others won't because of precisely the same. I'm in a foreign think tank and I have had the chance to work with foreign leaders and government when it comes to policy. I've had the chance to know some of those in the inner circle of the current batch of presidential hopefuls. The most feasible and comprehensive plan of action (as it is not just a platform in his case, there is a plan of action) I've seen so far is Sen. Aquino's. At the MBC, his economic policy was lauded. At a forum on education, PACU gave his educational policy the highest marks. His policies does not promise to bring the country to rainbowed lands and golden fields. They just simply aim to make democracy work for everybody: young and old, rich and poor. No man left behind. The best leaders and those that really deliver are those best at putting together a team. Those that recognises strengths and makes use of it. If you want to know what kind of people Sen. Aquino surrounds himself with, take a look at his senatorial slate. His has got almost every aspect of governance covered: health, education, environment, economy, legislation, budget, peace process, gender equality, human rights, business, defense, employment, people empowerment, agriculture, law and order among others. It is a sad thing that voters in this country are not voting on policy. For me the real essence of democracy is to be able to have a say at how you want your country to be run for at least the next administration. But in a country where politicians can and will make promises so easily in the soapbox and break them even quicker in office, how do you know if he will stand by his policies and commitments? Look at their track records. For those who served as legislators: look at their voting records, the bills they authored and co-authored, the resolutions they have sponsored; for those who held administrative post: look at how they handled office--elective or otherwise. Did they flip-flop in their 'advocacies' and 'principles'? Character and principle first. Make sure they really do stand by their policy and commitments because, in the end, what is a platform but a useless sheet of paper if the candidate does not believe in it in the first place. And from there choose the set of policy and commitments you wish for this country. The kind of change you want to see. And then you vote. And if they win you hold them to be accountable to bring the change they promised.

One is that the publicity he has has from being the son of the former president Cory and the the former senator and hero Benigno sr.Another is that he is currently a senator.Another is that he is the brother of a celebrity. An the last is that he maintains a good public image to Filipinoes. Among this factor, being the son of the former heroes couples, who are very much familiar in this country as the two who sacrifice their selves for the country is the main reason why Noynoy leads the survey. People thinks that he has the drive and motives to make this country good because of his parents advocacy.People think that he don't have the drive and motive to become corrupt as he brings the name of his parents in politics. This is the main reason I think why Mr .Aquino is so popular and leads the survey among the rest.

You have a very valid points there which would some up Pinoy Politics as all about name recall. The more popular the candidate is, the higher the chances of the candidate to get elected into office.

Filipino think that Noynoy came from a good political family & that he is "clean" (i.e. no history of corruption),that why he is the ideal Philippine president. He is the exact opposite of the current president and president wanna be's. I am not sure about voting for him because he do not have a track record - how many laws he authored or co-authored or any proof that he used his pork barrel on any projects that benefitted us. Another issue being raised is that during her mother's presidency, the Mendiola massacre happened - farmers from his mother's hacienda. He needs to address this issue since they have inherited some of shares/ownership. I also agree that he doesn't have a political plan or stance, except on corruption. Unlike the others who have been verbal about it, like Gordon, Estrada and others, we still have to hear from the man himself. In order for him to be "THE" Presidential candidate, he has to his homework and not just be visible. This will further cement his reputation and become everybody's choice.

i think noynoy just happened to be at the right place at the right time. it could be any juan, pedro or maria. the widespread corruption, the unstoppable cheating and a government perpetrating deception will give rise to a person who represents the exact opposite of all these and will have a following that will snowball from island to island and it could be other than noynoy. so it happened that he was there, ready to rise to the challenge. i am not saying that the others are not. but their positions and personalities do not match the need of the times in our country. and besides, people have become distrustful of candidates who harp on promises to push their agenda...

let's just hope that the right guy will win this year's election. As other have said, being a son to two great Filipinos, Ninoy and Cory Aquino, as parents they have shaped him as a person but yes not all sons and daughters tends to be like their parents but let's see if he can prove himself to the masses. There is just one question lingering in my mind for a long time since he filed candidacy and maybe to some others too... Ano na ba ang kanyang mga nagawa? This question still continues. During election we need to pick on someone to vote for our country's future. Choose the lesser evil* as some people will say.

I dont think he desrves to be the next president of our country. Hands down to his parents as good parents and lets just say patriots of this country . But we are talking about the presidency here, this is not the kind of position that we will be givin to someone just because his parents are icons of democracy. You need to have credibility to lead a country, i think noynoy needs to prove to the public that hes deserving for the post but without tagging along the names of his parents as his best endorsers .Personally i think its better for him to run as a senator again instead of being a president. ;)

Have you ever heard of the Pope John Paul II story of how he was orphaned and left alone without a family at a very early age? He had stayed quiet, on his lonesome moments, and had conversed with God. Later on, without a hint, he found himself leader of Christ's Catholic Church. There is a parallelism with B Aquino III that I could think of. I suppose he simply found himself caretaker of 5 women, his mother and his four sisters, the youngest of whom had been apparently prone to erring. The responsibility had been on his shoulders and yet he stayed at the sidelights. I am sure he found himself very much surprised with his decision, too. But duty calls. It is time to shine. Sometimes, the preparation for a difficult task is not the obvious way. Many flash their track records. But as in JP2, the greatness of a leader is established in the quiet moments.
