This is the second big case to make headlines around the area recently. Isn't it sad that these people have gambling or shopping addictions and then they steal from their employer. But this case not only was the employer the County but the department of aging where their job is to help low income seniors. Seriously, stealing from low income seniors that pay to go to meal sites or get meals on wheels (which in honesty you could get a similar Swanson or Banquet frozen meal for less money but thats a whole other discussion).
Shame on her for stealing that money!

I just do not understand how something like this can happen. If proper inventories are kept and client lists checked and verified at least once a year, an audit should show such discrepancies. Do these programs not audit themselves?! And shame on that piece of scum for stealing from the elderly--if not for them, this country would already be in the toilet, not just on its way in.
I saw a story last night about a home health care worker who had a criminal record. Because of the way the state is required to check or not check records (depending on length of residency) the woman wasn't subjected to an FBI check that would have revealed her fraud and robbery charges.

It's no different than the embezzler from Koss corp. except she stole millions. They were the top dog in their dept and they didn't have enough brains to have an outside company audit their books. **shaking head**
Yeah they don't do many checks on these people other then if they are licensed CNA's or whatever. That always worries me because many small time crooks work in the health care industry and in particular as CNA's as the schooling is quick & cheap. @ a former job we delt with people whom were employed @ a nursing home and many were not of good standing to say the least. And that nursing home despite it's religious affiliation did not employ good people and it's a dirty shame that they had such a reputation. But that's the way it is when dealing with the elderly there are more people who are trying to take advantage of them rather than do the job they are employed to do.

This happens to senior citizens so very often, and it isn't fair at all. If it isn't an employee that is embezzling from their senior citizen employers, it is children that are stealing from their parents that are up in years. I don't understand why there is anyone that finds it necessary to steal from another person and especially with the elderly it is really something that burns me up. They worked too hard in their lives and have been through so much that it isn't fair that they should have to suffer at this point in their lives.
