Is a Satanist really an Atheist

Today I was asked by a student of Jesus whether satanist are really atheist, I did not have an answer to this question. I would think that a satanist would know there is a God and that they choose to believe in the evil that is satan, while an atheist believes that there is no supreme being, therefore wouldnt it be a contradiction for a satanist to be an atheist, because then they would be saying that satan doesnt exist.

I agree with your thought. If you believe in Satan, you have to believe that there is a God because without God there would be no reason for Satan to exist but it is an interesting anomaly. If you realize that there is a God, why would you choose to worship evil. Interesting question

Ravenlady. You are absolutely INCORRECT. The attributes that you describe are the beliefs of an atheist NOT a satanist. Check wikipedia for a definition of satsnism

Just a not how can you be a Satanist and not believe in anything. See a Buddist believes in Budda, a Christian believes in Christianity, and a Satanist believes in satan. An atheist believes in nothing, no God and No satan.

Satanists dont believe in god or the devil..those are CHRISTIAN concepts, ideas and beings...."Satan" in Satanism is NOT a being...and Satanist are NOT nor do they believe in "evil"...Satanism is a philosphy of and for life much like Buddhism is...Buddhism IS NOT a religon but a philosophy for living (Satanism however is actually a recognized religion but my point is the beliefs are philisophical)....

I wanted to say too (but I posted too soon which seems to be my thing lately for some reason) that I SUPPOSE to some degree Satanists could be considered atheists...

My problem with this theory after much study is that who ever is calling themselves a satanist and not believing in satan is a contradiction. By definition and practice after reading up on thousands of satanist in my studies I have found that they do in fact worship satan and they feel that those who do not worship satan, are just posers wanting to belong to something. I have one that proclaims that people who say they are satanists and do not follow satan are liars, that that person is just like a Christian who refuses to believe wholeheartedly in Christ. I asked yesterday of this group if they see satan as a symbol and they said No! that satan is and will always be alive and well. So are you sure that you know what a satanist is, or are you an atheist that does not know the definition. This is not meant to be rude, I also know some professed Christians who have no idea what it takes to be a Christian.

I know a great deal about Satanism..I've studied it, own and have read the Satanic bible and knew ppl who were Satanists (we've since lost touch over the yrs though) so naturally spoke to them about it and so on...And no I'm not an Atheist..I'm a Pagan/Buddhist who happens to love theology..as well as learning about numerous paths, systems and so on.. By definition and practice after reading up on thousands of satanist in my studies I have found that they do in fact worship satan and they feel that those who do not worship satan, are just posers wanting to belong to something Luciferians see Satan as an actual being..Satanists do not...they are NOT the same thing just so you know..they're actually two completely different systems...

a Satanist is a rather spiritual version of an Atheist. they believe in the spirit, and in learning about and developing their soul. they do not believe in the God of the Christians, or the Satan of the Christians. to a Satanist, Satan is not a real being but a symbol. they believe that mainstream religion has always suppressed the human soul, and seen it as something to deny rather than to accept. so a Satanist sees Satan as the human spirit that mainstream religion tells you to turn your back on. it's not a religion with deity, but rather one that teaches to explore the individual soul, and to trust in your own instincts. some of the most moral people I've known have been Satanists. personally I think that the fact it is called Satanism is rather childish and ridiculous, but that's not the fault of the modern day followers, but whoever decided to equate human nature to another religions bad guy. they can't help that someone else chose a silly name for a valid and interesting path.

Have not heard this view but it sounds dificult for most to believe, however my research is increasing daily and your view has been seen as one of the many views I have found so thank you.

A satanist which maybe defined as a worshipper of satan, have exchanged the worship of a creator to creature worship, and an atheist believe in elemental things, both have denied God's existence.

Yet another contridiction, after speaking on behalf of Christianity to a group of satanist I have learned that they believe in God, however, they see him as unjust in his decision to kick satan from heaven, because that is so they dont believe that he is all powerful which stands to reason that he is on equal ground as satan. However, while I think their arguement is hogwash. It still indicates a deep rooted belief that God exists.

Not really. An atheist is someone who doesnt believe in God. But it doesnt mean that an atheist is a satanism. Since satan is not an atheist because satan believe in God but only disobey Him.

That is exactly what I think too then the believer of satan would not be an atheist.

An Atheist is a person who denies or disbelieves the existence of a super being or beings. So an atheist just dont believe in anything in the spiritual world, and therefore Satanist is not an atheist at all. Quite the opposite, satan is actually a very devoted follower of Jesus. What I meant by this is that wherever Jesus is, satan will always be there trying to manipulate contradict, go against or manipulate God's people. satan knows and understand the bible as well!! Altho he used it for his own purpose and manipulate the fact. Anyways, satanist meaning a people that believe in satan, and therefore they believe too the existence of God, therefore not an atheist :)

I was thinking of how atheists wouldn't possibly believe in any kind of diety, but then I looked into Wikipedia for answers about the whole thing, and found that one of the major Satanist groups is actualy called Atheistic Satanism. What they mean is that they don't see Satan as any kind of real being, but rather as a symbol of certain human traits. However, they wouldn't call themselves that... each type of Satanist will usually refer to themselves only as a Satanist, while Atheists will usually refer to themselves only as an Atheist. I do see the wo directions as having massive differences.

I was a satanist a few years before committing to Christ. I recognized God existed-- and , sorry to say, hated Him and most religions esp Christianity. Satan can do a lot twisting and I would think it is possible for a satanist to be an atheist, and considering satan to be some spirit being but not God. Praise God I'm out of that mess!!!!
