specialized cable networks

I didn't know that when MTV (Music Television) stopped showing all shows that dealt with music that it would lead to phenomenom. AMC (Americn Movie Classic) doesn't show movies have the time. And now Cartoon Network doesn't show cartoons all the time. Its almost like specialized cable networks are a thing of the past. Is this a good thing, a bad thing, or just part of the business?
