Star Ratings Accurate?

I recently reached an activity rating of "100", so the star appeared next to my name. However, the number I got was only a "6", which seemed kind of low to me...especially since I feel like I take the time to write clear, quality responses. Has anyone else ever felt like the rating is low given the time they put into their responses??

moneymaker 92 I feel that the rating by us mylotters is too iffy as though the mylot admins says not to rate someone negative just because the user does not agree with the poster's opinion. but some mylotters will do this and it is just not right. We should all rate positive for clear, quality responses.I was at an eight for ages and finally got moved up to 9 but when I first came here I had a ten. the trolls moved me down to 5 from a 10 overnight.I protested and mylot admins caught the two men and kicked them out but only put me up to an 8 but now I have moved up to 9 and one day maybe a 10 again.

I agree. I have a feeling that my rating started low because I posted on a discussion over religion, which can be very controversial. I'm guessing some people decided to rate me negatively because they didn't agree with what I said, but I can't tell since I didn't have a star at that time. I hope it never gets to a point that I'd have to contact MyLot support...Glad you were able to fix your problem though! :)

I think that is the part that would bite I mean if someone is not doing a good job yeah they deserve a neg but if they are replying and posting I believe they deserve the pluses in there disscussions.I would love to be able to have a stared number by my name and feel important.

Negative ratings are for things that are inappropriate, but not necessarily abuse. Things like one line answers or off topic answers, that make you go "Huh?" Having a different opinion than the person who posts does not mean that person needs a negative, but people do that anyway. That is not how rating is supposed to work.

It takes a lot of time before you get a higher rating, I started at 6 as well, you'll do fine don't worry, and they aren't really accurate as people can be really mean and decide they don't like what you wrote, so don't take the rank seriously, I honestly don't like it myself, I honestly think it is just one of those popularity contest things.

I am still not sure how you get a rating. I found that my 10 rating only came when I started rating the responses to my discussion and giving a award to the best. I also try to enter discussions in more interests. But it may just have been the amount of discussions and responses I did on mylot.

Yeah, I've found myself becoming more active in rating good responses positively since the star became apparent. Hopefully, people will do the same for my responses. Good job on the 10 rating! :)

Eheheheh, don't worry, if you can "join the right club", your reputation will grow quickly. Otherwise you will need to wait much more.
That's because here there are at least 2 different categories of members: the ones that care about their "friends" and the ones that don't cares.
Recognize the first is quite easy, just look at the discussions with lot of responses... if you see all high ratings, 8 9 and 10, then they are the first cat. You will see they answers all the discussions of their friends, and obviously they rate each other.
The second category, instead, answer really few to their friends discussions, and seems to ignore that you can rate other people ;)
So best wishes, and well chose your friends ;)

Yes, what you said makes a lot of sense. I guess we both fall into the second category =P
I can associate with what you said though...Originally, I added friends to try to build my MyLot network, but now I will definitely try to focus on good, active friends. Thanks for the great advice! :)

It takes a long time to get up there. I was shocked with my old account when I finally made it up that far. But then I lost it all over night. Personally though I liked the 7 star the best to me it was the prettiest one. Plus I like the #7. It all depends on people + you. The more you get the better.

Oh I see, That star is a bit shinier then the others. But if the red and blue stars pay more and make it so i earn more I would prefer a 9 or 10 over the pretty 7 mind you it is a pretty 7 star!!!

Congratulations on the star. I got quite excited when I got mine. The number is for how other users rate your participation in the discussions so it's not really about how much you have participated. So that's pretty subjective. What I do is really have fun and always be helpful. I try to answer the questions first before I share a little bit about myself. That seems to work for me.

Since your rating is dependent on who gives you a positive rating if you have gone unrated I can see your star not having as high a number. You will probably see a rapid improvement the more you write and the more friends you have.

The star you start with is from your first one hundred posts, so it is a percentage. If 70 of your first one hundred posts were rated + your MyLot user rating is 70%. At least that is how I understand it. When you are new and you have very few posts it is very dynamic, each + or - can move you a lot, or it only takes a few posts to change your star. Yes, some people have told you to be sure to choose friends who will respond to you, interact with you and who will take the trouble to rate you.

So does that mean that if you are currently unrated, that you automatically start at a lower star number?? Also, do you happen to know if the ratings start to count from the moment you join or the moment the star appears by your name?

As you go on and people rate you more often I am sure it will increase..
however it is a little disheartening when you start seeing it decrease.. I personally don't even look at mine anymore!
I could care less. It isn't going to change how or what I write!

Has yours ever decreased before?? That does sound discouraging...but the only direction I plan on letting my reputation go is UP! =P
But like you said, once it's in the 8+ range, I think that's a satisfactory representation, and once you've been rated as many times as I'm sure you have, it probably won't have too much of an impact one way or another.

Hello there,
I have to say, what you have been through now, we all there before. In face, you already doing pretty good! I think i start with 3 or 4, i can't rememeber, and the star is not only the quality of your post, also the "+" sign that people rate you, so the more active you are, the better rating you will have.
Don't worry, you will be a 10 very soon! Keep working!
