Help, I need an opinion and advice!

Hi mylotters, I believe in Jesus Christ but I've been wondering about the mystery of the Holy Trinity: three persons in one God. Did the Father, our Creater, will Himself to be born as Jesus in order to save us from our sins? Is the Holy Spirit the mind and wisdom of Jesus? If the Father is Jesus, who dwelt among us for the purpose of our salvation, does the Holy Spirit represent the mind of the Father as well? In a Catholic church, one would see pictures of Jesus, the Saints and the Archangels. There are pictures and statues of the Cross, too. But because these three entities are one, is that why we don't see pictures of the Father and the Holy Spirit? This thing has really been baffling me. I've been trying to rely on faith,i.e, believing in what I cannot see, to get me through. There are many kinds of religion, but I feel that there is only one God. Whatever others believe in, I feel that we are praying to the same God, with different names, but really the same God. Your opinions and advice would be greatly appreciated.

These days we tend to think of 'person' as a unique individual but this wasn't always the case. Perhaps one way of seeing what the older meaning of person was is to think of a well-known public figure, for example, a statesman or a policeman or a pop-singer. Each of them has many different aspects, depending on the standpoint that you take. A singer, for example, may have many different 'personas': to his fans, he is an idol; to his band members, he is a friend (we hope) and a member of the band; to his mother, he is a son; to his wife, he is a husband and to his children, he is a father. Even so, he is the same 'person'. It is the same with God. I think that the idea of 'The Trinity' came about because of particular ways of thinking of Him (as a Father figure, as a Son - and, in a sense, a brother to us, and a Spirit - the part of Him which lives in each of us). I, too, agree that there is only one God and that He is worshipped in many ways in many different religions, even in those that have many 'gods'. Religion is really a man-made institution. It is a way of gathering together to worship God. The word 'worship' comes from an old word meaning 'to recognise the value or worth of something'. The '-ship' is the same ending that you see in 'friendship' and 'craftsmanship', for example. I believe that it's related to 'shape', so 'worship' (as a noun) means something like 'the shape or form that the worth or value [of God] has to us'. When we use it as a verb - 'to worship' - we mean that we are giving a shape or a form to something very abstract: 'the value of God to us'. Humans seem to need to gather together in a 'purpose': our ancestors have always been tribal because it was an efficient way to do things - we hunted in groups and cared for our children in groups and, later, when we became farmers, the 'group' or 'tribal' way of thinking helped us do things that individuals could not do on their own. It's rather natural for us, then, to gather together to worship and also to tend to think of God as a 'group' with specific functions for each person in that group. God really is one being. As the Creator, He IS intimately part of His own creation. Just as a bubble would not exist without the air inside it, our Universe could not exist if God were not continually 'creating' it. He pervades all (including ourselves) and IS all ... yet is an entity which is separate and sentient. I'm sorry. Perhaps much of that was too 'deep'. Never mind. Reach out your own mind to God and ask for guidance. He NEVER refuses those who ask Him how to understand Him.

Interesting posit, Starchaser. What I said does not actually imply that tree worshippers, stone worshippers and even "Lucifer" worshippers ('Lucifer' means 'bearer of light') are worshipping God (though they may well be worshipping an aspect of Him). Notice that I said "many" religions and not "all" (without wishing to be specific).

Thanks a lot owlwings. That was very well said, informative and illuminating! We think as humans and as humans we think of a person diffently. Trinity: The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit, three persons in one God. Applying this on humans like us, let's take Peter as an example: he is my son and best friend, he is a friend to his friends, neighbors and co-workers, an electrician at work, etc, but he is one and the same person. Yes, there is only one God and He is in every cell of my body, in yours, in every plant and animal, in all His creations. He is that close to me that all I need to do is "reach out to Him and ask for guidance." Great idea Mr. Owlwings! Btw, the owl is a symbol of wisdom. Owlwings, very aptly chosen username, you're full of wisdom and I immensely appreciate your advice! More power to you.

Wow, Owlwings!! I posted almost the same thing. Great minds, huh?! God has given you wisdom... continue to use it well. It looks great on you. A lot of the comments I read are pretty good. But, it's interesting to see how the mind of others work. I always say... "You have to submit your intelligence to God, that way your brain allows him to speak... without you putting words in his mouth!" Hahaha. I really enjoyed reading your response... Have a great day

I am having the same trouble trying to find a church. All the beliefs are so different and yet there can only be one real god thet we all are praying to. Unless there really are different gods who reign over different people. To reley on faith is very difficult and I guess it is supposed to be. If it was easy then everyone would beleive right? I often wonder if there is no god...I ask myself how there could be a god with so many sick children in St. Judes hospital with terminal illness...why are they not going to get a chance at life...how did god choose them. Al the starving sick children in different countries. People raped, grusomely murdered...how does god choose who those people are? We are supposed to believe that god knows all and can help us. Has he just forgotten most of the world? I have so many questions like this. I guess I am not very strong in my faith and without answers how do you become strong in your faith?

Good day, kmahony. Each of us is but a tiny microscopic speck in the big picture. Yet whatever we do, be it good or bad, affects the entire world population. Tiny as we are, we are vital components of the world that God has created, anything good that each of us can contribute helps in the betterment of the world as a whole. Conversely, gross and undersirable actions contribute to human misery. God did not will this to happen, these are hman miscreations. We can start with ourselves, our families and the people around us. It is our responsibility to ask, "what can I do for others?" and let's do it; instead of "what's in it for me?" which is being selfish and egocentrical. I have probably said this in other discussions, but let me repeat it. God loves us with an unconditional, patient, understanding and forgiving love. He will never forget us and he will never want us to suffer. But, let's do our part. I hope this eases your mind. Peace be with you, kmahony.

Hi Kmahony610! Just read what you wrote... Concerning being strong in faith === translate that to (subjective) relating. Relate to God; connect with him... he will make you strong. Most of the comments to this question are good to ok; but for you - I'd say: SEPARATE what we do (as crazy humans) away from what you THINK God is doing to us. He's not that callous & mean. God didn't do/create global-warming... we did that!! Abuse of our planet. So... understand that suffering in all its forms is still a teacher - that we MUST learn to appreciate the bad as well as the good... knowing that bad can ALWAYS CHANGE. Many of those sick people you mentioned have learned great life lessons. It doesn't diminish there existence if they don't live to see 80yrs. YOU, my friend, can become a force for positive change - but don't fight the wind. Help those who desire help... love the unloveable... Start with your neighbors. It's a pebble in a pond... watch the ripples go out!! God believes in you - that's why you are here!! Have a great day!!

First I would like to preface my statments by asking you to remember that the Bible is not 100% complete. It's bee translated more ways than I care to count.. It's books have been torn apart by many different religions and sects over the centuries. That's not to say however that it's current contents are not the word of God and Inspired by him. And I believe in it's truth as far as it's translated correctly. Now with that I would like to take you on a tangent not normally taken by the christan world. Let's first start by using a couple of scriptural references. I will be using the King James version if the Bible. So if you are using any other version the wording may vary In the Genesis 1:26 God says "LET US..." which to me implies duplicity of person's. This is confirmed IN Genesis 2:15-16 The title's "Lord God", which in my studies has shown to mean Lead God, or again duplicity of Gods. Now from here we take your question about Jesus Christ being God. If God created man in "his own image" than how can Christ be God. I would say this. He is "A" God, as a title. But he has a Father like you and I do. And we call him "God" the father, vs Christ the Son. But being that Christ is the son of a God that automatically gives him Godship. Also you should be very aware of all the times when Christ prayend unto the Father. He also said I lead by example and do nothing that I have not seen the father do. I also know that many scriptures quote the line " I and my Father are one" But I ask you are you not one with the company you work with... Or one person in a family group. Sometimes you need to look outside the box and read between the lines. I would love to talk more with you on this subject. Please feel free to send me a pm and we can discuss it at length.

Thanks, I think I get your gist. The bible is the word of God. It is written by men as inspired by God. Since we are all different from each other, we find different interpretations as a result. Everyone means well, but since we have different ways of thinking and since there are a number of religions, we will have to pick what is most logical to us. Yes, I am one with the company that I work with, meaning I abide with its rules, policies and principles and work hard for the fulfillment of its goals. I am not the company itself, I am part of the company to which I owe my allegiance. The concept of the Holy Trinity is subject to individual interpretation. Thanks for your input. I hope to hear from you again. Have a blessed day.

Hi, i also believe that there is one God and I have been taught that Christ is the son of God. To me, the Holy Spirit is like our angel so i don't think they are all the same entity. However, they DO play similar roles such as giving us hope when were encompassed by darkness. I know there are many criticisms but the main thing is that God, Jesus Christ, Holy Spirit etc enable us to keep faith and still beleive when everything else is lost. (Hope i'm making sense).

Thank you, snowstormz. You certainly are making sense. Your response is very enlightening. Let's continue to have faith in God and get inspired by the Holy Spirit to live our lives according to God's will. Have a blessed day.

believing in trinity is unbiblical doctrine of the catholic.. don't be confused by that doctrine because it does not exist in the Bible. Hint: try to download a bible application for your computer and then search for the word "trinity". I bet if you find one.

You might also download the Q'ran, the Granth Sahib, the Upanishads and several other well-respected books. They each of them contain many truths (and all have their limitations). None are really much use unless you have already agreed to let the Spirit guide yours in reading them.

Hi, bamikalipal You are right in that there is only one God - the Bible, or Holy Scriptures show clearly that - and we can pray to Him, just like Jesus did. I often go to the watchtower.org site and this time I did a search with the word "trinity" and found some interesting articles. One of them is here: http://www.watchtower.org/e/ti/article_03.htm If you read what it says there, you find that the first Christians didnĀ“t believe in a trinity of gods, but in one God. Even the Catholic Encyclopedias admit that. The belief in trinity comes from Babylon, where people worshipped many trinities of different gods. You can do further research on the WT site and on the Internet. Have a great day..

welcome to mylot bamikalipal. i just thought quite deep about your statements. i have been in an arab country where it is dominated by islamic people. it is them as well who told me that we are actually praying to just one God. we just name him in many different ways. and we just practice differently in our faith. but is the same God we pray to. about the trinity, a supernatural being can transform in many images. like what people do in movies, disguise. i am not purely sure about my example but it looks like it. that God represented himself in these way. that he wanted to look like human as he created us. although initially, it was stated that "let us create man in our image" (correct me if i am wrong). 1. that he himself is the main person above us. 2. that he came to live with us through jesus. and 3. that he sends his blessings and guidance through holy spirit who is himself as well. in three different ways by himself, and in many other ways through his angels and as was proven by history, by his prophets. so there is one God. with him, nothing is impossible. but hey, it was also written, "you don't have to understand my mystery". it is a mystery. it will never be explained. but we know and we feel and we believe he exists. so what he needs from us in return is to follow Him.

Hi, I thought I always believed in Jesus Christ but now I don't know anymore. I think their is a new wave of people who've saw the light and are not taken in by all this Jesus stuff anymore. And perhaps it's a good thing for society. Well maybe it's a good thing; I'm not sure. All I know is I'm not sure about any of this God stuff anymore. I started to do little movies using xtranormal, a site on the internet, about Jesus. And upon re-reading the gospels I got more questions about Jesus then ever. Like for instance did you know that he, Jesus, literally told people to cut their hand off and pluck their eye out to keep it from burning in hell with the rest of the body? Now why on our God's green earth would our perfect God say such a thing? And he was supposedly saying this stuff to person (back then) who took it literally. There's also other stuff I wonder about pertaining to Jesus. That's why I'm wondering now for the 1st time in my life, were these 4 gosepls fact or fiction. And I read on the internet that there's much proof that it's fiction but don't quote on this since I saw that as one persons comment in a forum (that there was much more evidence that it was fiction then fact). I wonder if there's evidence of a Holy Ghost. From my own experience of being out in the world I look around and I don't see any real Christians. I mean most people can't wait a few seconds for me and my son to cross the street for Pete's sake. I think most people are good; they just aren't super nice that's all or maybe I should say that considerate. I do think their possibly is a God maybe. It's just another big questions without a real answer. Just people out there whatever you do don't listen to some wicked preacher and go killing yourself. OK, just don't do that. Don't listen to these crazy evangeliticals and other crazy religious fanatics that are trying to scare you. They don't know if their is a hell; they don't know anything most probably. Another thing I wonder is, is that if God is all knowing then why would he have had to make himself human (Jesus) just to find out how it would feel to be human like us and suffer pain. He's God right he's suppose to be all knowing so he wouldn't have had to do that - come down to earth as Jesus as live among humans that he supposedly created to be in his own image. All of this God, Jesus and the devil stuff just doesn't all add up; it just doesn't.

Cute dog!! I think your mindset is very health. I have basically two comments to aid you: 1. God does not have an identity crisis... that's just us; so, I agree - we are basically praying to the same god but using diff names. God is not finite like us. He's more the 64 color box of crayons we so love... or better yet, paint. When you mix the right colors, you get fabulous "Hues""man". lol!! So, God is as diverse as we are... He got colors we ain't seen!! 2. The scripture says, "You seen the father if you've seen me." - so, to piggyback on the above (just a tiny bit); you won't see pics of the Father or Spirit .... just like we don't know what your parents look like... other than to look at you. You may be italian... it's many times noticeable; you may be from a certain... your voice can give that away; or you may represent more than one culture/ethnicity... yet your heritage still lies within you (What Christ meant). Same for the spirit.... you can come from an educated background, and if you carry that enegry (of your parents) as an adult... you can be easily educated too. It's more like a tendency than an actuality. But the spirit ACTUALLY comes to guide your spirit. He is the lawyer (if you will) representing the law (and has never won a case - b/c he's that GOOD). He won't mislead.... but, will stir you to the culture/nature of God, our father in Heaven. So, Jesus is like Son/Brother/cousin/friend === all in one. Just like you are daughter/???/MyLotter/???/friend. Hope that helps.... looks like others have too. Blessings

God bless you, too, Duglaiglas! Thanks a million for your help. God does not have an identity crisis, but we do. We think as human beings, forgetting that God, being the Creator represents everything that is in His Creation. Jesus is brother, Father, best friend, the mind that guides us when we choose to listen, the mind that is in us when we choose to use it. I am me, bamikali, daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, friend, etc. In my avatar, you see a cute dog that represents me, showing that I am indeed a dog lover. Btw, thanks, Haru is really cute and lovable. Your comment was amazingly well put, it's very enlightening and I greatly appreciate it. More power to you!

I personaly belive that is a force higher then us, that created everything . I don't belive all the stories ,the Bible and other details, but i belive in a higher force.About the Holy Trinity i dont' belive.in my opinion just another story, but everyone thinks different
