dinner? My sis-n-law kept apolozing for the simple dinner. I loved it and I'm glad it was simple. The dinners with lots of kinds of foods, I'm getting so I can't eat them. Even if I take only a bite of each food, I get too sick because I've over-eaten. We had buttery good mashed potatoes with a hint of black pepper. She asked how much milk I wanted and told her to put plenty in because my husband doesn't get enough milk. The potatoes came out rich and creamy. I loved them and so did my husband. So we each had a nice serving of that. Then you had a choice of either bean salad or macaroni and cheese. I love bean salad, but my hubbie and one of my brothers doesn't. I can have mac and cheese any time. This was the box stuff, so no biggy. But the bean salad, I've never seen so many kinds of beans plus she put onions in it, small amount of sweet one chopped up to taste. It was beautiful. I only took a little bit because sometimes the vinegar is strong in that kind of salad. But it was great! Hardly any vinegar and good tasting oil that was light and didn't over power the beans. So I went back and got a full serving. Honey ham, great stuff, less salt taste. I had a small amount of that because I'm not supposed to have salt. That was grest, too. It didn't taste salty, it tasted sweet. Later on cake, but I'll reserve that for another post. So what do you like to eat for your birthday? What great birthday dinners have you had?

When I was married my husband would take me out occasionally for my birthday. He was a good cook and would fix something too at times. I like porkchops and have had them. He took me to a new restaurant one year that was sort of French. It was interesting and very small portions. I like simple too.

That sounds really nice. Sounds like you went to a Parisian French Restaurant. I like French peasant food better.

I just had my 25th bday less than a month ago, and I had many dinners actually,. LOL. I celebrated it for like 3 days, so I had dinner with my family, old friends and the officemates.. all of those were dinners on a restaurant, cause I don't really have time to cook, nor have the talent to cook a good meal. hehehehe. Anyway, it was really fun, cause I love whom I was with, and I think that was what is really important.

Well, even it is a bit late. Happy B-day. You enjoyed that dinner and it is always so much nicer when it is simple and shared by your loved ones. Why we always have to make a very big do out of it, i really cannot say. We normay just throw a big braai together. And that is always a nice way to spend your day with the family. Simple and easy.

You make a nice big fire. We have big brick and steel braaiers for this. That is the thing you do the braai on. Then you take your meat. T-bone steaks, pork rib, boerewors{sausage}, kebabs-chicken or beef, then you tan those babies and you eat yourself into submission. That is the South Africn way to braai. We do not barbeque. TATA.

The best birthday dinner that I had was the one spent with my family. She loves cooking for me during my birthdays and my close friends would come over. However, nowadays I usually spend my birthday to a restaurant. It is because I live far away from home ever since I started working. Now though that I have already a family of my own and this will be the first year I am planning to just spend my coming birthday which will be on April with my husband, our son and our two close friends. I would cook dinner at home. Sad that my Mom, Dad, brother and sister are not sure if they can make it. I told them to ask for a vacation from work so they could catch a plane and be here with me for at least two days. Brother said he is not sure since they are constructing a new set of condominiums. He is a Civil Engineer. He can't live the site and take a plane to attend my birthday he said. Sister might be on duty (she is a Nurse). Mom cannot ride a plane due to her heart condition. Her Doctor does not want to give her a medical clearance. They can take a ship but it would take them three days to get her and three days again to go back home. Father can't be gone for that long due to political campaigns for this coming May election. He is a politicians staff. Sigh!

You have a very busy and accomplished family. We're mostly together because we're mostly broke! I'm sure you'll have a happy birthday. Maybe they can all call you or if you have Skype or something, all see you by computer or something. It's hard when people live far away. Take care.

The last time I saw my family was like almost five years ago. That was when I was still in College and I went home for a summer vacation. My brothers and sisters were still in school then so we were complete during that time and I spent my birthday with them with just five of us. My mom cooked dinner for us. It was a lovely dinner. I miss them so much so I would really want to see them in person. Thanks to you and take care too! :)

Oh, my, often it is steak and a potato. I prefer the steaks hubby makes. When I was little I liked "orange" cake. It had little bits of artificial orange in it. Honestly, I do not remember my last two birthdays, or maybe even more. I get so wound up in other things I forget to have fun. I would really enjoy salmon for a birthday dinner as well. Or even tomorrow, shall we say it is my birthday.

Sounds good, esp. with the price of beef lately. For awhile we had pumpkin cake. That was good. Salmon is good. I don't know what the Natives in Alaska do to Salmon, but they grill it and serve it, it melts in your mouth and is almost like candy!

My wife and I have this special place that we like to go to called "Trader's Lodge." The website is at: www.traderslodge.com Check it out, if you like. If we are going to stay home, I would prefer a good filet mignon and baked potato with sour cream and maybe for desert a big slice of Cherry Cheesecake.

That sounds really great! We used to go to Ponderosa, but now we go to Chinese food places if we go out, usually places that have a buffet.

The most wonderful birthday I had after 10 years was on my 23rd birthday. We celebrated it together with my uncle's wedding anniversary, which fell on the same date. We have videos, photos and speeches from both parties. Very memorable. The servings were regular; cakes, fruits, chicken and nuts. But the celebration was filled with laughter. After going through many hardship in life, having people around me laughing gives me motivation to continue collecting my points in life. That is why last year's birthday was so memorable.

Hi! I don't think there is something wrong in a simple dinner for the birthday, because the most important thing on a day like that are you relatives, your beloved ones, who are near you and share your happiness. I am happy every time i have a birthday and every time it is one wonderful birthday, because the whole family gather around the table, we talk and laugh and I feel so happy about that, no matter what we eat or what presents I have received. the most important for me is that my beloved one people are around me and we all are happy and careless on that day! Be HAPPY!!!!!!!!

I think the meal was great! Simple is better because you can actually get the opportunity to have time to visit with everyone because if they're fussing with everything, you don't have that opportunity.

I had a wonderful birthday dinner two years ago in Makati Shangrila with my closest friends, management officers and my special guest was the President/owner of the number one bank in the Philippines. I was very surprised to know that he had turned down a major event just to attend this gathering. We had a great time enjoying the buffet and company. It was like yesterday. It still puts a smile on my face everytime I remember.

There's only my a few of us. My two brothers, one has a girlfriend, my husband and I. Not much of a mess, clean up from eating, but everyone has to eat supper anyway. We usually don't wrap presents, so not much mess that way either.

two birthday dinners, quite a bit apart. one I was ill with a strept throat but it was my birthday and mymom and sister and my hubby insisted Ihad to go out to eat on my birthday lunch. we had steak and big baked potatoes with butter, sour cream and chives, my steak was butter soft and med well and so good altho it hurt so bad to swallow. we were going to have a fancy germanchocolate cake dessert but I did not think my mom and my hubby cou ld afford it.our waitress said go ahead and order it its already been paid for. I looked around and a tall goodlooking man with gorgeous silver hair waved to us and left the restaurant. the waitress said, thats the owner, he paid for all your meals so enjoy. another time my hubby took me to my favorite restaurant and this time I was well. We again had steak with shrimp and baked potatoes, and then myhubby had a surprise, the waitress came with a large strawberry and cherry angel food cake allcut in slices and candles on the cake, wow, then they all sang Happy Birthday to me.Those were memorable.

It all sounds very wonderful! Some places up here, if they find out it's your birthday, the birthday cake is free. If you want ice cream, too, you have to pay for it, but not the cake. But all the meals, wow! That's a nice owner. Sounds like your hubby did have a wonderful surprise for you.
