I was at my birthday party and later on we had cake and ice cream. The cake was a simple box chocolate, but the frosting was different. I asked my sis-n-law how she made it.
She took semi-sweet and sweet chocolate chips and melted them in a double boiler. She added a little milk to taste. Then she poured it over the cake quickly. Later on she put chopped nuts on the top. It was great, it wasn't too heavy or sicky-sweet like lots of frostings.
It was single high so that we didn't get too much like we often do when we cut a double layer cake. I love eating and then feeling comfortable instead of uncomfortable after ward. Don't you?
So have you ever had a different ides for frosting or topping a cake?

That sounds wonderful, I copied it so next time I make a cake, I will do it this way. Usually I like the heavy buttercream, but my fmaily doesn't so maybe they will like this.

My mom was the Queen of fudge makers. One time when she was first seeing my step dad she made this heavenly yellow cake. For topping she made this cruptious fudge topping. It was the best cake. I was probably about nine years old at the time and it still sticks in my mind.

Wow! Must have been incredible for you to remember it that long.
I remember this one cake my Mom made, I had so many relatives over that it looked like a wedding cake. She had a large round cake, then smaller, and smaller until there was a cupcake on top.
Thanks and take care

I like jam between layers of cake and then whipped topping or whipped cream as the actual frosting. I have made penuche frosting a long time ago, and as I remember, I really liked it. I like fudge sauce, too. Or caramel sauce. Yum, I think I need to make some caramel sauce tomorrow.

I've used pie filling between layers, that works well. Caramel sounds good, maybe on a plain white cake that isn't very sweet it would work well for me. Thanks and take care.

Hi, Edge!
I didn't have enough of some of the ingredients and I was in a hurry, so I iced a cake with Nutella. It was so good, I've often done it again, especially on cupcakes. It's great to realize it's healthy as well as delicious!

That frosting you ate was called "GANACHE" like what you said just melt chocolate and add either milk or heavy cream in it!!I've tried other frosting and still discovering more. But what I usually use for a cupcake is my butter cream frosting..and lately I discover a MARSHMALLOW frosting and it's really a major hit!!

Thanks for responding. I just started another frosting discussion, so maybe you can drop by and check that one out, too. Welcome to Mylot. May you enjoy yourself here as I do. Take care.

It's fast, too.
I'll remember that when I'm in a hurry. I tried the spray stuff one time and when they serve immediately, they aren't kidding, by the end of the meal, it had evaporated.
My brother's girlfriend often does that with fruit to make a fruit salad, works out well.
thanks and take care
