Are or Have you prepared For These Incoming Storms?

With these big storms blazing across the nation, are you preparing for them, and if so what are you doing to prepare? Mostly I tell my kids to get their vehicles gassed up, and maybe put some extra weight in the trunk, and of course get all of their groceries, and make sure their cells are fully charged and that they have some flash lights and a battery operated radio on hand. We know that sometimes the electricity goes off too, and we have to be prepared for anything. Back in 2007, in Dec., we were without heat, electricity, and phones for “9” days! We stayed in our home, even though it was really cold out. We had candles all over the house in ‘safe’ containers, and we lit the top of our gas stove which did help some with the heating of the kitchen, dining area and some in the living room too. We had extra blankets for our beds. When my late husband went work, I was glad to have my phone charger for the car, so I could at least keep in touch with family and friends. Sometimes I also make some soup the day before the storm is due in too. I keep the covered pot in the garage (where it’s plenty cold), and can just heat it on the gas stove top when everything went ka-put Hope some of my suggestions help someone here. Have a great weekend.

I live in the South, so I haven't experienced storms to that degree, and as far as I know, where I live, we aren't expecting any big storms. Except for a lot of rain the past few days, everything seems normal down here. I have been hearing a lot about these storms recently though. I wish you and your family luck in the wintry times!

I live in the south too – Oklahoma City – but the weather patterns are really changing everywhere. Even in Florida, last month, it got really cold. And – many of these storms are bringing in a lot more snow and ice than normal (whatever that may be LOL)

It's really-really rare in my area.Actually, I never feel it.But if it's happen, while we don't have a preparation. As long as my cells have full charge, my fuel also full that will not much problems. We eat rice in here and vegetable also meat, and each family still have enough stock for 2 week minimum to stay alive if something happen. As long as our suplay are save, we won't worry about eat, light, water, and most of live support. We are live in country that live in ordinary and didn't count on the suplay. So when the suplay cut off, we still can live atleast for 2 week until 1 month. If You live in disaster circle, better to prepared it.Not only basement, generator or food. Also, teach Your kid to face this situation.Back to nature like scouts and some kind like that.So they won't surprised when something worst happen, while You are injured and can do nothing. If they familiar with the conditions, they won't get shock and can help to save You.

We've got food and candles and all of the usual stuff that we have to have to get by whenever we get snowed in. We also have ice melt and a snow shovel not to mention plenty of blankets in case we have to worry about the heat and power going off. We've passed the worst of it as of now. It's stopped snowing. We're just waiting on the state to plow roads and start getting people out.

Last night it started snowing and most businesses closed early and that isn't something that normally happens here, so I figured we would get a lot. We have a lot of candles and flashlights 'just in case' and always have food in the pantry, we have a gas stove but if that isn't enough, we also have propane space heaters and a couple of kerosene heaters with the extra propane and kerosene in the garage. Hopefully we got all that we are going to get for now. The plows have been down the road and someone plowed the driveway out for $20.00. I'm glad someone came and asked, I wasn't looking forward to go and shovel it out on my own.

My husband and I did grocery shopping twice this week. We're just starting out so really didn't need to do shopping twice, but we did. We stocked up on somethings just because we weren't sure if we'd be able to get out. We have plenty of bread and things for supper the next couple of days. It was sleeting earlier, we were told, but it didn't sleet where we were, so I guess it was just a freak "burst" so to speak. We have a flashlight in our bedroom, and can go to the den where it's warm if need be.

I really don't know we can prepared so much before a incoming storm! Maybe because we live in a partment, I never think I should worry about electricity and heat problem. I go gorecy shopping before storm coming, and I think I get tips from you, so I will be more prepared this time! Thank you!

The usually. Fully charge phones. Stock up on food. Make sure the roof doesn't leak and move everything to the second or third floor. Also keep a raft handy.
