I love History very much. But a lot of people says that History is a boring subject, plus that it have a lot of memorization. But i don't totally agree to those people, for me history is fun, and it does not have lots of memorization. How about you?

I agree, history can be a lot of fun, but some teachers make it less so and make it so you have to memorize lots of stuff.
I love to look at really old stuff, but even more modern stuff is fun to analyze as to how things were brought about and what if this or that step hadn't been taken, what would've happened?
Just a suggestion since you are new (this is a great discussion by the way) but if you then reply to people that respond to it, it will help you earn more - won't add to your numbers, but will help the earning side.

i totally agree with you, that a lot of teachers make history so boring that students tend to sleep in their history class (it makes me laugh at the same time angry). but ever since i entered college, my own view of history changed, i thought it was just pure memorization of time and dates, but it was a totally different thing. it was actually like reading a story, and we DO NOT memorize anything, strangely enough we just remember the story. ^^
By the way thanks for the compliment "this is a great discussion by the way".
i'll be happy to respond to other people's comments. i really want to know their view on history (my beloved subject).

i started liking history at an early age and still love it. in fact, i seldom read fiction as i am always reading about events in history. what are your favourite events to read about? mine are the early 20th century (including ww1) as well as the American civil war (i am Canadian) and the history of the 1960s in the US. my favourite show ever is History Detectives on PBS!

good for you... i only started liking history when i entered in high school. but then my passion for history never faded after it.. because through history, i can see how bad the condition of our country (I'm a Filipino) is.. sadly, our government pays very little attention to our history, and just focuses on raising the country's revenue, thus repeating the same mistake over and over again...

I think History is very important and can be fun and interesting. I worked with a teacher who taught History from different points of view. One year he taught the American Revolution from the British point of view. Another year he taught it as one part of a world conflict.
We have to understand what happened in the past to understand what is happening now and why it is happening. If we don't learn from the past we are bound to fail.

it really is fun.. although i'm still in college, my teachers taught me to look at history in different perspectives and not to focus on important people only. it is like going journey but instead of taking the safe road, i took on the woods that are full of danger. what i am trying to say is that, history is not just about the great leaders. it is also for those who are behind those great leaders.. ^^

History was one of my favorite subjects at school and it led on to an interest in Archaeology in which I spent nearly 20 years of my working life. Above all, history and archaeology is about people and if teachers don't understand that and simply concentrate on lists of names, events and dates and call that teaching history, then they deserve to have the entire class fall asleep on them.
History is still one of my faviorite subjects and I can read a history book as if it where a novel because I can relate the events to the real people who took part in them. Needless to say, historical novels are also some of my favorite reading though I'm not to happy about Hollywood historical films, they rarely seem to get the historical details right and it's sad that many people, having seen a Hollywood historical, then think that was the way that it really happened

Cool!!! you're an archaeology?! wow, that's a cool job! i would like to be an archaeologist someday, maybe after i finish my degree on History. and i agree that history teachers in high schools and elementary schools do not understand the importance of history as a whole, but they only focus on the famous ones. and yeah!, they deserve to have their entire class sleep on them.
i am also fond in reading history books, i read them like any other literature books, and you are really correct that Hollywood historical films does not reflect the real history, and that it is depressing to know that people who have watched those films think that it was the "real" thing.

I dont like that subject. There are so many things to memorize not just dates, people and places but also the happenings during those times. Argh! I am so glad I am a graduate student already, I dont have to take that subject anymore. lol

lol.. i think it's because of your elementary experience, where the teachers gives their students articles from history and made them memorize the important dates and people. but i can't blame you on hating History. Congratulations by the way.. haha

i really do not like history.According to me what is need of memorizing those dates, which Of course,do not have any relevance to our real life.If needed we can surely look at the books for the dates.I never think history to be fun.

i respect you opinion, and we have different perspectives.... ^_^ but let me also say mine.. the books are available, always.. but history is more than just time and dates.. an understanding in history will be deepened if someone who is skilled enough is to talk and explain the times, dates, and events in a history book..

Hallo....I didn't like this subject " History" when at school times. Too many things had to be memorised....the year, the name, the place,etc.....Although I really keen to know about what happened long long time ago but it made me dizzy everytime....But now I have more relaxing way, I enjoy watching historical movie/ film like " Chinese Three Kingdoms" , I think it 's very attracted me. And also games based on this history...... is very fun!

no offense man, but i think those teachers don't know how to teach history.. because history is more than just memorization, more than just time and dates. history is a story.. but i agree with you, history that are made into movies are great.. but some are too romanticized.. i recommend you watch the movie 300, and know the "real history" of 300, you'll find that it was romanticized by Hollywood..
thanks anyway for you opinion.. please tell ur other friends to respond to my discussions..
