My father said that valentine's day is not a part of our culture... so there is no reason for Indonesian to celebrate this day.... He said that it is a part of western culture. so non western people should not celebrate it. He also said that if they still celebrate it, they only stupid person who want be capitalization's victim. So, how about you?

hi cutex87! ughhh.. really? I do celebrate Valentines Day and I'm from Asia. Does it mean I'm a victim of western capitalization? hihi! Honestly, I don't see anything wrong with Valentines Day. In fact, I find it amusing that people celebrate this day and give importance to this occasion. I don't blame your dad for saying that because, every person has a culture that they respect and believe in. My dad has his own opinion on different matters and he also apply all the things he knew is right that is based on the culture he grew up with. On the other hand, I have my own beliefs and modern views on a lot of matters and it is all up to me which one to follow. I follow what I know is right and my dad respects my opinion and life choices. Same with him, I also do respect and understand where he came from and what he believes in. Happy Lotting!

haha yeah! my dad once told me, "you always watch foreign movies what happened to your taste of Filipino film?"...I was just smile and told him "fine is fine, dad". Haha! I can watch anything that is good no matter where it was filmed or who leads the movie, be it a foreign actor or my fellow filipino.

hehehe.. I prefer watch western or Asian movie cz today many Indonesian movie are not good quality enough... not et all, but most of them. However, I just "pick out" or receive western movie that have social value for me, that can I take the good message of it. And, talk about valentine's... I think I little agree with my father... cz I think everyday is love's day... not only valentine's... and I'm not a teenager, so valentine's is not proper for me to celebrate it.

I am sorry, but i do not agree with your dad. This is not for only a certain culture. If you love someone or have a special friend, you spend that day with that person. For the life of me, i cannot understand why people tend to make issues about such small things. Just enjoy your day.

Love is part of everybody's culture. Although I don't think anyone should need an occasion to show it.

Hallo...I think celebrating Valentine's day already become a trend, not only in Western country, but also Asian country. Just like in my country, normally we eat rice, but sometimes we prefer to eat burger, hotdog, or just steak and french fries for our lunch, it is something normal in this modern society, we already being influenced by other culture. I do not say that it is right or wrong, just a kind of your own choice or liking...if you want to show your love to your love one at that day , for me I think it is okay!!! Happy Valentine day!!!

that's the point. Valentine is not part of our culture. But globalization makes us accept this culture. Good response. tq

Well, at least , i think we should give an eye to the diverse world and always keep an open eye towards it .Experiencing it will not inescapablly lead to the capitalization's victim .
