I notice most of the cooking shows chefs use Extra Virgin Olive Oil for most of their recipes. While I agree this is probably the healthiest cooking oil around, there are many other oils that are equally good or better to use. For instance there is also: Palm oil, canola oil, sunflower oil, butter, margarine and coconut oil. All are good for certain dishes. What's your favorite oil for cooking, and why?

daily i like to use sunflower oil and i use it for my indian curries.we indians also use seseme oil for making pickles. i use butter in cake recipes only and i also use in bread toasts. i dont like to use margarine because some margarines contains beef fat. recently i bought olive oil and i used it once .its taste is good ,but different than sunflower oil. as the price is more,we cant afford this olive oil daily in our diet. in some parts of my country, some people use coconut oil which is good to our health. The health benefits of coconut oil include hair care, skin care, stress relief, maintaining cholesterol levels, weight loss, increased immunity, proper digestion and metabolism, relief from kidney problems, heart diseases, high blood pressure, diabetes, HIV and cancer, dental care, and bone strength. These benefits of coconut oil can be attributed to the presence of lauric acid, capric acid and caprylic acid, and its properties such as antimicrobial, antioxidant, antifungal, antibacterial, soothing, etc.As a result of these various health benefits of coconut oil, though its exact mechanism of action was unknown, it has been extensively used in Ayurveda, the traditional Indian medicinal system. source:http://www.organicfacts.net/organic-oils/organic-coconut-oil/health-benefits-of-coconut-oil.html).see other befinits of coconut oil in that link. so thinking to use this oil atleast once.

Hi teamrose, as far as I know extra virgin olive oil is believed to be the best oil for cooking. Therefore we use this most of the time. But this imported oil is really expensive if compared to the local palm oil. No other choice we have to use both these oils for preparing dishes so as to cut down the amount of expenses. We need quite a great amount of cooking oil to stir fry and to deep fry our daily dishes. Considering that taking too much fried stuffs with considerable oil is not good for our health. At the moment we prefer to steam most of our food And at the same time we could enjoy more dishes prepare from olive oil Happy posting!

hello teamrose, i agree that olive oil might be the healthiest of them all to use, but its also kinda expensive! huh! for me, i usually use vegetable oil or palm oil, whichever is available... its cheaper and i am used to it... i use those that are fortified with vitamin A. i also use butter & margarine, depends on what food i am cooking...
