I know of a nursing school in our place that prohibits strolling in malls wearing school uniforms. Yet, I see many of their students there. Some are in restaurants, stores and even inside theaters, internet cafes and gaming areas. I also see a lot of office employees in malls after (or even during) office hours. They are there for varied reasons. Have you been to malls wearing your school/work uniforms? Are you fond of this? Or have you observed people doing this in your places. Please share your comments. Thanks.

Hi moneymakingtoday :) Yes I stroll around the mall in my school uniform because in our university we are allowed to go in and out of the school whether it's our break time or not.. in other words, we are responsible on our own schedule and it's up to us whether we attend the classes or not :) So during my free time or if there's no professor me and my friends (or sometimes I myself) go around the malls usually in arcades or fast food chain just to kill time or wait for the next class. :) Our school and the mall are just neighbors and that mall surrounds other college universities as well so it's typical that you see a fellow college student too on the mall :)) Great discussion you have here and God bless you

school uniform - students in their school uniform in a mall
Hi Cecillecarmela, You may call me MMT, for brevity. Well, in the situation where the mall and the university you are in are close to each other, the school administration would find it hard to prohibit their students to go to the mall. I know of a school and a mall jointly owned by the same owner. In a way, prohibiting students to be in his mall would, in a way, "decrease his business" there. There is also one school which is housed in the same building as the mall which is located in the ground level. So, in both cases, there would surely be students in the malls. It behooves upon these students to exercise discipline and diligence in their studies.

Hi Gabs, Lol ... there was no way but to wear the uniform to the mall, hahaha. It was, in fact, your work and it is what requires you to wear your uniform.. It is a good chance to do shopping or eat in the mall as you are there already. There are others who purposely go to malls in their uniforms because of time constraint. From their workplace, they need to pass by malls to buy something needed in their homes. Thanks for sharing!

I don't care if someone is wearing uniform, as long as they don't wear uniforms from hospitals and clinics. They are spreading germs, no one should wear hospital uniform outside the clinic.

school uniform - medical students hanging out in a small cafe by the mall aisle
Hi Polachicago, I have seen hospital staff in their uniforms in a mall. But they are not very many. But just the same, these people should opt not to do it rather, they better go home and clean themselves up. There should be the presumption of contamination as they work in hospitals. It is not good to be in public in their hospital uniforms. I agree with your good point here.

I worked at one place that didn't allow their employees to go around to stores in their uniforms. If they caught us they would either fire us on the spot, or fire us when we got into the company. I personally never got caught, but I was always apprehensive of getting caught, I worked third shift and I'd do my shopping on Fridays after I got off of work because that's when I got paid. In some aspects it's a good idea, in other aspects it is a bad idea. Say for instance you're in your uniform and you do something wrong, then that looks bad upon the company that you are working for.

office uniform - lady in office uniform in a mall
Hi Crazycory22, You are right. I also think that is the primary reason why companies disallow it. It wouldn't look good for the company having employees getting mugshots at police stations in their company uniforms. It would really tarnish the company's reputation. There are companies who value very much their reputation because of the fields of business they are in --- example would be banks. In the past employment, it was strictly prohibited for us to go into gambling casinos and to be seen gambling publicly, even in civilian clothes.

I don't think I ever went to the mall in my school uniform because our school didn't allow it. Maybe the only exception would be if I went with my parents right after they picked me up from school. There's also a supermarket right across the street from my school and I would go there too, if that's counted. I haven't gone to work where there's a uniform. I guess it depends on the rules of the institution, if they disallow it, then we must respect it. One thing though about employees in uniform going to the malls. Sometimes you really need to pick up something or do some shopping either during your lunch break or before you go home and there's just not enough time to go home and get changed first. I guess the dilemma is when there's bad behaviour by the person and the uniform gets tainted because of it.

school uniform - college students in their school uniforms while in mall
Hi Verabear, Rightly so. I guess that is of utmost concern to the school. Because students are "wearing" the school as they wear the uniform, they should refrain from doing something that would taint or damage the image of the school. I have done that at times, too. I have picked up something on the way home in my office uniform. It is the most practical and cost-saving way to do it than having to change clothes and go back for our purpose. Thanks for sharing and have a nice day.

When I worked at the hospital there was no way that I was going to be visiting any kind of a retail establishment while I was wearing my uniform. It was a hideous outfit and after working a long shift at the hospital I knew that I was a very dirty person. Before I would do anything, I wanted to go home and shower and change clothes so that I would no longer feel dirty. I know that there were some of the girls that I worked with that would go out to breakfast after our shift and I could never understand how they could do it.

school uniform - a medical student in school uniform in a mall
Hi Dorannmwin, I understand how it is. I think so, too. My daughter is now working in a hospital and she comes home as soon as she gets off work. There was never a time that she arrives home when she didn't pass by the bathroom. She takes a bath and leaves her dirty clothes in the laundry basket there before going into the bedroom. She says she has no time to go around malls because she is already very tired aside from the fact that she is not comfortable going around in uniform.

school uniform - students wearing school uniform while in a mall
Hi Weasel81, Well, there are instances when we do not have time to change into other clothes because we need to pass by the store to buy something. That would only take a minute to be there. I often see students or employees hanging around malls. They are either in aisle restaurants eating, talking and laughing. Personally, I don't find it nice to look at them in their uniforms.

i don't see any problem with this especially for employees, unless these are government employees and they are lounging on company time and therefore wastign the taxes that we pay them. but of course we have tons of these incidents happening under our noses and no one doesn't really get punished for it. lol! for students, as long as they are not cutting classes, they can go malling in their uniforms. i understand though the concern of schools and universities that have this policy, a bit shortsighted in my opinion as the policy doesn't really address teh bigger issue on hand which is why students are in malls and theaters instead of inside the classrooms studying. still it is better than not having any policy on this matter at all. i do know that malls prohibit students in uniforms from entering their premises, students meaning like grade schoolers and high school students, especially if it is in a highly suspect time. again, what's to stop a student from changing into civilian clothes and skip school to go to the mall? indeed, it is not only the schools/universities problem but moreso that of the parent. again, we need to go back and study this situation further to put a stop to this.

school uniform - a college student of a medical school seen in uniform in a mall
Hi Allen, You have good points here. As an employee, I pass by malls or department stores from the office to buy things for the house, food or grocery, most especially. That is surely more sensible thing to do than having to go home and change clothes and go back to the store. I agree that government employees using official time in hanging in malls is a waste of the people's money. Let us not limit our view to the government employees. A private employee doing the same thing surely also wastes company time. But then, it is more difficult to go out from a private office than a public office especially for that purpose. For students really bent on spending their school time in malls, I believe it is the parent's primary responsibility to monitor their children and only secondary for the school.

office uniform - ladies in office uniform in a mall
Hi Bingchen, I don't like to wear my office uniforms in strolling in malls, too. Except for very urgent reasons, I may be found at times in a store, to buy something that is really necessary. I am not comfortable wearing my office uniform as I go around looking at anything in malls. After office, I just want to change into something more comfortable. [em]happy[m]

school uniform - college students seen strolling in a mall in their school uniform
Hi Bianca, Schools have their reasons for that. Maybe mostly because the student is carrying the school as he wears the uniform. And anything that he does, always reflects the school because of the uniform he wears. I have seen students hanging in malls in their uniforms, too. Oh, there are lots of them. They might be prohibited by their schools to do that --- it might just that weren't reported and caught.

I been in the malls a couple of times in either in a school uniform or company uniform. Normally, I would go to the mall to buy something for myself or the office or after office hours, since it is the only time I would have time for myself. Sometimes schools discourage students to go to mall wearing their uniforms or some do cut class. Internet cafes discourage students to play games unless they're in the Internet cafes to have their school work done.

school uniform - medical students wearing their school uniform in a mall
Hi Joseline, You are right. We only have little time on weekdays to do shopping. If not for very urgent reasons, it is always better to be home early. It is always better to be sitting comfortably in our homes having changed into something more comfortable to wear. Yes, most internet cafes disallow students to be there especially during school time. I think this is a good idea. In a way, they help the parents and the school police the school children.

I used to go to malls with my school uniform on. There are 3 malls in front of our school when I was in high school. It's only now that I'm older that I realize that it's not really good to see a student in uniform walking around the mall especially on school hours.

Hi Nocturn98, Yes, it wouldn't look good on the student, parents and the school itself. I think it gives a bad impression or image to each of them. There is an exclusive school I know in our place where it is prohibited to roam around wearing school uniforms. Maybe there are exceptions but I really am not privy to that. There is even a strict imposition of the ban on participating in beauty contests. Even appearance on TV needs school permission to do that.
