Reading was a great entertainment for me from the time I learned how. I wanted ALL the books at the book fair at school......not really, but many more than I was allowed to have. I went to the library all the time to borrow those that I couldn't buy. I can tell that you are alot younger than I am, but I did read Dickand Jane. I just can't remember some of the ones which I read as a child. The Boxcar Children comes to mind. There were also nursery rhyme books that we had in the house that I remember reading so often that I could recite them and still have memories of mostof them today. I also remember loving to go to a cousin's house since they had an entire desk drawer FULL of those Little Golden books. Couldn't wait to get my hands on them!

When I was a child, in my elementary school we used to get about 5 up to 10 books to ready them during the summer break. To be honest, I didn't really like that because as soon as the break comes I used to ready to spend the whole time outside playing with other children from early morning till late evenings.

I think I was one of the few people that loved reading all the books that were assigned in school. I don't remember what the first book I read was. I do remember being at the library all the time. I would check out the most books I was allowed and always ready to go back before they were actually due. I would usually read my brother's and sister's books too!

Hi there Java.
I think most of the books i have ever read was... this year, because for 9 months while going to work and returning from it (about 1:30 hours in the subway) i read books - i believe i read over 25 titles and i am still pretty addicted to reading even now, after the job was finished.

When I was a teen, used to love reading romance novels. Not Mills and Boons. It was a different book company but the name escapes me for now. Reading it made me fell in love with Love and Romance.
After that teen period, I began reading books by the late Sidney Sheldon. The entire family keep hard bound and paperback book copies of his books. We would anticipate the new book and immediately buy a copy.
Some books were borrowed by my friends and were not returned. Sigh! Most of them were hard bound and very expensive.

Yes, I read books like Jack and the Beanstalk, Pinocchio, Princess Sarah and the Little women. It was available at school library so I was always there, reading it. I remember I also have Snowwhite and the Seven Dwarf and sleeping beauty. I also have Pocahontas. Even when I was young my imagination crawl. I became creative because of that andI tried to write my own story because of that.

I spent so much time reading as a child that my mother put a limit on how much I could. I was allowed to go to the library once a week and check out 5 books.
That was my limit, which was not hard to enforce, as we lived 5 miles out in the country. There was no bookmobile.

Yes. I read a lot of books when I was a child. My parents had books on their shelves and I read Washington Irving's "The Tale of Sleepy Hallow" in on of the books. One time in sixth grade, I tied this one "brain" guy for the most book reports for a semester. Whenever I saw a movie about heroes, I would go to the library and read the book about them. I had a book about Davy Crockett that my Aunt sent from Pittsburgh. She always used to send books to my house. When I saw the movie, "The Alamo", I went and bought the book called "A Time to Stand" by Walter Lord. When I saw the movie about the Titanic, I bought the Titanic book called, "A Night to Remember" by Walter Lord.

I have always enjoyed reading, even at a young age. I will never stop reading. I actually have tons of books just waiting to be read, and the library is one of my most favorite places. Thank goodness my son loves to read just as much as me. He had already gotten an award from school for reading the most books. He's in first grade.

I had my nose stuck in a book so much, Mama would toss me out to play, removing the book forcefully from my fingers.
Nothing was more magical than being on the prairie with Laura Ingalls Wilder or visiting palaces in Arabian Knights. Animal stories were particular favorites and I find myself writing those more than anything else today.
The joy of reading has been replaced to some degree by the joy of writing, but it still remains my second favorite thing to do with any spare moments.

I think the books I most read when I was a kid was the Children's Bible stories that my Dad brought. Then I grew up with Sweet Valley kids, then teens, then High. I read hardy boys and encyclopedia brown. And then I tackled the classics. Hehehe. I read a lot when I was a kid, and until now I still do.. That is what I want to give to my future kids. The love for reading.

I was an avid reader when i was a child. Every night before bed i would read, and by the time i was in the 5th grade i read the Hobbit, which is still my all time favorite book. I read consistantly up untill about 10th grade. My vision os very poor now and am in need of glasses so reading is hard for me. Even on the computer i have my internet screen zoomed into 150%. lol
