Emma has always been my favorite of Jane Austin's work. Not the book, but the movie. No matter who the actors are (but I have to admit that Gweneth Paltrow and Jeremy Northam has to be my fav) I love watching this show. And this month I was excited to see it on Masterpiece theater. I only hate how late it comes on PBS. But I stay up and watch it every time. "I love John, I hate John."
I think it is wonderful that PBS allows people to experience Austin's work even if they cannot read through the complicated text.
PS I also think my loving this particular movie has to do with the fact that when I was in college instead of reading the book I watched the movie over and over to memorize the quotes, which my test was mainly over quotes and who said what. LOL

I love this movie. I have always thought the Gwynneth Paltrow version would be my favorite version (I love Toni Collette) but I really think the new Masterpiece version is quite good too. I have already watched the new version a couple of times. I am lucky that in my area, there are a few different PBS stations so if a movie is on too late one night I can always check for a rebroadcast of a movie within a couple of days.
I really enjoyed the remake of Persuasion too. If you haven't seen the 1995 (96?) version with Ciarin Hinds and Amanda Root.. you might want to check out that version too. I have that the DVD of that one.
The recent remake of Sense and Sensibility was good.. I don't think it was as good as the Emma Thompson version though. I didn't watch the recent remake of Northanger Abbey.. I never liked the story of that one.
My favorite Masterpiece movie currently is Cranford. Those ladies in that movie have a wonderful sense of humor.
