I'll write normally like the way others do for now: but only for a while until I am fully convinced. Can you guys help me out to decide here? I really need your opinions regarding this matter. If you can enumerate some of the disadvantages and advantages on both sides...I would gladly appreciate it. You see, as far as my typing fingers ar concern...they kinda' feel awkward if I return to my normal writing like this. It seems that it has already adjusted to 'zomething like thiz'. and feels more normal for me. I've been doing this for so long even when sending text messages. And all my friends know me for that. It's like my trademark already. But I would still try hard, like what I'm doing right now, to refrain from writing "Z's" instead of "S's" for what's best for everyone. Thanks! I hope to hear from you soon...

When I first saw this, I thought you were talking about British English vs American English (trivialise vs trivialize), well vice versa actually. idk Things like 'zomething like thiz' kind of annoy me. English major. lol But I can understand what you're saying, so do what you're comfortable with. What REALLY annoys me much more is stuff like this: whEN ThEy mIx ThE CAseS Gives me a headache!

I can understand what you're saying. That's really all that's important. It's not like this is an English composition final or something. :-)

Hi dawn. To you and to everyone else...I'm sorry if I may have annoyed you. As an English Major, I think it really kinda' annoy you..."Coz even I (not even an English Major) sometimes gets annoyed when even a simple basic english sentence/grammar gets mixed up. You say I kind of annoy you but tells me also to do whatever it is that I'm comfortable with. Thank you for that. At least you still let other people choose for themselves. I like that. It reminded me of a long phrase a friend once told me that goes something like this: "we are human beings, we do commit mistakes a lot of times but one thing that remains constant is change. God has given us the freedom of expression but also did He gave us the choice to change for abetter future and tomorrow."

I think it depends on the person you are talking with!!! For instance, an older person will think just like this person, that you are not well educated, but ur frienz will think u r as kool as the are!!!

Hey it will be good if you use 'z' instead of 's' in some places. But if you constantly replacing it in all places, it looks so awkward. I think most poeple don't like to read that kind of writing. Too much of anything is good for nothing. So, its better if you use it in few places. In my opinion, I don't like 'z' coming in front instead of 's'. It will be good at the ending letter like 'friendz'.

that's really a point by avimra, in my view i won't use "z" instead of "s" beacuse it's hard and weird to read. but the idea like "friendz" is great and it develop your own style.

i think you should continue writing Z form than in normal form, because there are a few number of people that write that way. i don't know if you think Z is close than S, but if you think so then do so. sometimes it is nice to stand out in a crowd than to be one of the crowd.

And you're even telling me to go on Despite of everyone telling me to refrain or stop doing it. I like your attitude. Thanks for taking the courage to "stand out" among the crowd. Have a great day!

If you are chatting with close friends, it should be okay as long as they understand you. But if you are online, and the audience are from different parts of the world, it'll be troublesome for others to read and understand what you are typing. Well let me list a few advantages and disadvantages (as you asked) Advantages: 1. You'll have built yourself an identify (since no one else types like you) Disadvantages 1. People would consider you have bad english 2. People would think that your just disrespecting the langauge. 3. It confuses people who are reading, particularly since you post stuff online, people from different parts of the world would be confused by your spelling 4. People might think you are dyslexic ( no insult intended, I am dyslexic myself) 5. You will give dyslexic people a hard time! I had to read it 3 times to understand. 6. Blind people and people with low vision who are running word to speech software's will really have a hard time understanding what you are trying to convey if you keep replacing S's in Z's. Who knows, I am sure there are blind people on mylot too. Anyway, it is good you are starting to type normally. Long gone the days where TyPiNG like ThIs was cool and unreadable abbreviations were fun. I used to TyPe LiKe ThIs but I soon learned that it is annoying, and reflects that I don't care about the grammar of language. Hope my explanaition is what you were looking for.

Wow! Thanks a lot for taking time enumerating everything there Kyla. I like what you've said in the advantage part. But I feel I like the disadvantages better. Especially numbers 2 and 6. If ever there be another chance to mark your response as best answer, I would do so. But unfortunately I've already given that away. Anyway, thanks again for sharing your thoughts. You've given me a perception in a whole new different angle.

It is always a good idea (and good manners) to think of how your audience will perceive things and what they will be comfortable with. The use of 'z' in place of 's' is somewhat idiosyncratic - rather the same kind of thing as the people I remember at school who used to insist on writing in green or purple ink instead of the usual blue and black. That was relatively harmless because it was, at least, readable. Using 'z' instead of 's', affecting AlTeRnAtE capitals and using txt abbreviations is thoughtless and careless v d pple ur xpectn 2 read wot u ryt, so it is really best avoided if you can write and spell in the accepted way. Additionally, it is generally seen as 'showing off' and will not do a lot for your reputation generally.

I feel it very hard and uncomfortable to read Z for S. Z is a stressing Zee sound and S is normal yes sound. S looks good to read it. Wherever Z is required like Zebra, then we do not feel anything. Otherwise I feel like skipping that z part in the word.

I think you should type in S's now. They look better, more educated, and it makes more sense. I get confused with the z's instead of s's. Just practice and eventually it will feel normal for you, no problem. Happy Mylotting!

When texting or emailing friends or relatives it seems perfectly to write your Z's instead of S's. People know an understand it is just your quirk. However, if you are writing a school paper, business letter or corresponding with strangers, they will think you are just stupid and don't know any better. Imagine applying for a job and doing the Z thing on your resume; trust me the resume will end up in the trash.

I think that whoever writes with Zs instead of S is trying hard to be cool. Well they think it's cool but it just says that they are stupid and ignorant. If I got a message like that, I would've stopped reading at the first Z and just delete the stupid message. No offense, but stop making yourself look stupid. It's not cool. Years from now you would hate yourself for doing that kind of thing.

Just like the first response. To some or many people, it really is stupidity and ignorance. Well, I respect your ideas. But I think I won't hate myself for doing it.
9 Feb 10
I think it depends on when and where you use it. For example, if you are writing something to or for someone that you know and wouldn't really care then fine do what you want. But if you are writing to someone that you don't know then try to use an ss instead until they understand what you do.

Thanks. You have almost the same opinion like some of the other responses. Yours iz only a little detailed. What you said waz true...For some people that I don't know, I'll be trying to use S's first until they understand what I do.

Yes, I've thought about it. I still do that now. I still text my friends using Z's. And they also say that they are comfortable with it. Especially, they get to know first hand who's texting them. I have already made my identity with them.

try to refrain from using it. if you're writing a formal letter it's really prohibited to exchange z to s or s to z. you might be used to it til forever. that's all i can advise as of now. it's only good for text messaging and for some common friends.

...Hi there rexrevol, It is a matter of whether you want to be different when writing or if you want to be grammatically correct. Your z has a sort of s sound, but it is not an s, which it should be. So you would have people looking at it as a sign that you are trying to be different. If that is what you want then okay. But you may annoy people, as they try to figure out why it is being done. I say stick with the s and keep texting your friends, using the z who seem to like it. Take care.

I do want to be different for a change. But like I said to the previous post I made. It is not my intention to annoy anybody. Maybe because my friends thought it was "crazy-cool" that I was carried away and did it here as well. And when we say "crazy-cool", it is a good thing. Ok. I think I'll stick with the S and still keep texting my friendz, uzing the Z...Thanks! ^_^

It gives either of these impressions, that you can't spell or pronounce words starting with S correctly or you simply choose to write that way to uniquely tell your own. I think it's okay that you do that when sending text messages to your friends, but with other people, it is best to write normally so you wouldn't be misunderstood. Like the post above, I also think Z instead of S sounds better in the ending.
@rexrevol (328)

Indeed, it is best to write normally so I wouldn't be misunderstood by other people, I just realized that now. And as for my friendz, since they know me very well already and have already gotten used to it, I think I would still continue replacing S's with Z's when sending text mezzagez to them...^_^ Thanks!

It might not be bad for personal use, but if it starts finding it's way into serious or formal writing, you'd be in big trouble! I'd argue you should try to write correctly just for your own benefit.

Hi You have the trademark among your friends. They know you well n so even if u make a not normal writing they consider it new style but to someone who does not know u it gives the idea that u r ignorant... And since the english language has standardized the spellings it would create problems if u continue with the Z's instead of S's. Better is you correct it when u can.. Regards
