I started classical guitar in high school which used nylon strings for the guitars. As I went to college, I found that the metal strings guitar has a more vibrant and louder sound. I still prefer the nylon strings as that is what I started with. Even to this day when I bring out the guitar for ideas or just to jam, I prefer my classical guitar. How about you? Do you like metal strings or nylon?

I prefer the sound of nylon strings as i am not a fan of harsh sounding acoustic guitar. As i don't play that much of acoustic guitar i use steel strings . But for those rare moments i always use nylon.

well .. i also like nylon strings.. may be it is becasue i use a classical guitar.. actually recently i started playing guitar and my first guitar is a second hand classical guitar.. so i cant help falling in love with nylon strings lol... but if we use distortion we will have to use metal strings and there is no argument about that..

I like both. The Classical Nylon Stringed guitar, that has a spanish sound to it, really compliments some songs, especially rock songs. Of course a Steel Stringed guitar is different, more technical eitherway, they are both awesome.

Metal strings are a lot better then nylon they just give a much better sound then nylon. Nylon is cheaper too that is probably why your high school class used them. I can understand where your coming from though about how you dont feel like changing because you started out with nylon strings i started out with metal and thats all ive ever played i dont think i could change.

I have always had steel-stringed guitars. They are louder, with a more sharp and metallic sound. But I have played some nylon stringed ones too and I can say I may like them more. Their sound is...mellow, warmer. Their only downside is their thick neck. I like the nylon stringed better, but I wouldn't go and buy one. Maybe if I found one on the street then I would play it more than my westerns.

Absolutely, that's the only remarkable difference. The neck tends to be bigger. For some reason if you really wanna rock, the metal gives you more flexibility. The nylon I prefer but it's limited but that's ok, sometimes limitations make it better. Thanks for your response!
