My birthstone is topaz, for november. I like it well enough, but my favorite sort of gem would have to be either a sapphire or an emerald. I don't really like diamonds like most women- I think they're too cliche.

Opal, which has an interesting history of having been a popular engagement ring stone in the Victorian era, but then teh diamond industry spread the story that it's bad luck to help build the market for diamond engagement rings.
