There is one statement which we always hear from women when they are invited to party, dinner or functions is " I've got nothing to wear!" Isn't it fascinating which in actual fact her wardrobe is full with dresses, clothes with all kinds of design, colours, etc. I personally always claimed the sentence "Nothing to wear" whenever I open my cupboard. Have you experience this? Or your wife mentioned it? Or your mum, sister? Any guys out here having this issue too? Do share your experience and thanks

What men don't understand is "I've got Nothing to Wear!" is female code. It means for this particular occasion I don't have anything appropriate to wear. Something appropriate could be: 1. Something no one who is attending the event has ever seen before. 2. A killer outfit like the backless dress in the picture. 3. Something that makes me look skinny, while curvacious. 4. Something that will have all the men drooling and all the women jealous. 5. Something new. Men want arm candy, but don't realize how much work and effort goes into being super sweet.

Dear teamrose, I totally agree with you. You are absolutely right! What we meant when we said the above statement is : "I don't have anything appropriate to wear". We want something new, something different to wear at a different occasion. I too do not want to wear something similar or the same with another guest at that function. When we look good, we feel GOOD! Thanks for sharing, and do keep in touch.

I always mentioned it, because I never get used to going parties, I never prepared for that. It is much better if the invitation will be received a month before it, so that my preparation is long and I have to think of dress to wear. I am not good in choosing what is the proper attire. I sometimes ask the help of a friends who are more expert in this field. And a woman should look beautiful in every occasion, wearing is not always about dress, it combines with shoes, your hair and your make up. And your plan to how to socialize with people there. The meaning of I have nothing to wear is, I am not ready for it.

Dear grecy, Yes, you are precisely right about it. We need more time to get prepared for the function. Not only 'what to wear', we need to consider the matching and appropriate shoes, hand bag and the hairstyle too. You are so lucky to have a friend who are good in this profession. We always want something which is unique, a 'fashion statement' that is good. When we look good, we feel good, right? Thanks for sharing, cheers and have a great day!

I have to admit I am one of those women who sometimes say this line too. I guess it is because we get sick of looking at the clothes in our closet every day. So we say this even if we have tons of clothes esp. those we have not worn yet. Sometimes, we also say this because we feel there is nothing suitable in our closet or what we want exactly to wear to a party, etc. My friends are also like me. They also say this exact line. That's just how girls are. =)

Hi, I am just like that too, get sick of looking at the same clothes in our closet every day. We really need some ideas to mix and match those outfits. Some says that what we actually meant is, 'We do not know what to wear' or we need something new to wear. I think I must go through my wardrobe and try to mix-match my clothes for a fresh new outlook :) Thanks for sharing and all the best..

Im a girl, not a guy. Thing is, what we mean by this is "I have nothing NEW to wear", we forget the new haha. SO if Im going to a party and I know people there, well I wouldnt want to wear the same dress or anything they might have seen me wearing before. I want to wear something brand new that nobody has seen before. So this is what it really means. AND, whats wrong with us wanting to look good in new clothes?

Dear MagicalBubbles, Yes, I totally agree with your statement "I have nothing NEW to wear" We always want to look good for the functions or party. Wearing the same clothes makes us sort of 'lack' of something! Wearing a new clothes that suits the party really makes us feel good, full of charisma, energized and it boost our self-esteem! It gives us a different positive mood and it really make our day Now, I really understand what women means with the above statement! Thanks for sharing and have a great day :)

hi.. i've always heard that to my daughter everytime we have a family day.She will asked me what would i wear, and then told me that what would she wear either, she has nothing to wear,no more clothes to wear, aside from the fact that she have just bought a dress or jeans last week. And about me, yes i also say that words: " no more clothes to wear", even i've lots of clothes in my dresser.I think its just a common expression of women who always wanted new clothes to wear.hehe

Hi, It seems many of us facing the same issue.. I am glad to receive many responses in this topic. Some myLotters mentioned that the above statement actually meant "We are not ready yet, we need something that is really appropriate for the function". Some says that what we actually meant is, 'We do not know what to wear'. I think I must go through my wardrobe and try to mix-match my clothes for a fresh new outlook :) Thanks for sharing and do keep in touch.

Oh how I can relate with this one, and have said it many times myself. I know it might look like I have a ton of clothes to wear in my closet, but I am never Happy with what I have and always wishing I had something more. That is one of the reasons as well I am trying to go thru my Closet and sell some of the things I no longer wear as well.

It is definitely fun and 'a breath of fresh air' when we have something new and different to wear. It is good to know that you all have ways to sell the clothes that you no longer want to wear. In Malaysia, I hope there is a place where we can sell used but good clothes away and get some cash to have new ones! By the way, I just bought a new blouse just now and I am very happy about it Thanks for sharing and have a great fun day!

I am a woman, and I have never had this problem. I have two formal dresses (my wedding dress which is red, and another red dress with a lot of sequins on it), and a number of nice dresses that are suitable for Church and other dressy events, along with casual clothes. I am quite content with what I have, and it all fits me well.

Wow, red dress will look perfect on you as you have fairer skin. I like red dresses too especially wear it on the first day of Chinese New Year. It believes to be very prosperous. I am glad that you are happy with the dresses you are having now. I normally just wear a blouse or t-shirts with jeans to church. It is very versatile and convenient. Thanks for sharing

Hi Iriene!^^ I'm guilty of this phrase! LOL There are times when I'm dressing up to go to work (we don't wear a uniform), I open my closet and look at my clothes and say, I've got nothing to wear! While in truth, I have a lot of clothes and so many to choose from.^^;; I guess it's just a form of saying that I am tired of my old clothes, I don't have any new ones and I need to buy new sets immediately! If I was rich I would probably shop for new clothes everyday.^^;; There are lots of times that I'm already thinking of what to wear for the next day, and I'll go over my clothes mentally trying to remember all of them and if I didn't "find" something nice to wear, I'd go shopping first so I will have a new set of clothes to wear for the next day.^^;; Yes, I am so vain! What can I do? I'm a girl!

Oh guys are like that. They often not understand how girls can be vain. We do also want to be comfortable with what we wear but it's also important to us to look good! And yes, it's like a must that we wear new clothes during certain celebrations. It's a celebration so we have to be pretty because lots of people will see us. Anyway, I also do that too. I rummage within my closet and mix and match my old clothes. It's good to experiment every now and then. ^^ Thanks for the best response!^^

Dear secretbear, You know exactly what I meant! Great job Now I know how to explain to my husband who do not understand why I need to buy new clothes for this coming Chinese New Year. To him, clothes is clothes as long as wearable and it is a waste of money to buy new ones. However, I do dig for my old clothes and mixed and matched to make it 'fresh' look! Thanks and do keep in touch!

believe or not.. it is my husband who uses that phrase more than me.. i rarely go to functions / parties.. and when i do.. i just grab what i have in my wardrobe that fits the occasion,.. and still fits me i dont really make a point to 'dress up' - to me going or attending is just to fulfill my 'obligation', i am not there to enter a 'best dress competition'. the way i see it.. people being people.. no matter what u do.. wear something nice or wear a pyjama - someone will 'make an issue' out of it.. so.. i'll go to the party - go meet/greet the host.. eat.. leave.. the host will have too many guests to remember what u actually wear then - but he/she will remember that u were there...

Dear 4mymak, You are really practical. Totally agree with what you mentioned. It really make sense. The host will have too many guests to remember what we actually wear but he/she will remember that we were there. That is very true Hahaha, it seems your hubby is more fashion conscious! Thanks for sharing, I truly enjoyed reading your response. Cheers!

i guess the fact is women always want to be pretty and own pretty things all the time. fact also is, no matter if women have the decent 5-6 no. of casual clothing, 5-6 pieces of formal clothing it still wouldn't help assauge a fragile ego (which most of us have). and no matter if we know that not all styles, colors and mere price of the clothing doesn't suit us it still wouldn't erase that remark in our minds. however, knowing intelligent fashion is actually enough for anyone to look decent and unconsciously pretty enough .

Dear Ritchelle, Glad to hear from you again You are absolutely right! Many of us (women) always want to look our best, all the time especially at special functions. I noticed that I am self conscious on what I wear. I feel good if I look good. It boost our self-esteem. You have a very good point there, we should be good in 'mix & match' our outfits well. Creativity and innovation do plays a part Thanks for sharing and all the best..

Last minute shopping? Too crowded, have to queue up just to go in the fitting room. Cheers and take care :)

Hiya Iriene, I love going Shopping for clothes for pleasure. Maybe not to buy anything in particular right away but just to look and see if it will suit me if I like it of course. I love looking at the Catalogue online too as you don´t have to go very far either to see and get an idea of what you want. Here´s to all us girls.

Yes, I totally agree with you. Girls always love shopping, be it 'window' shopping, 'online' shopping, or 'year end / mega sale' carnival shopping. It is good to have some idea what is 'in season'. It is definitely a good way to browse the internet on clothes, fashion and designs. Thanks for the great idea

Actually woman like to wear a new set of dress for each occasion. When they choose the dress for any occasion they feel that every dress is already worn by them. So they feel that they have nothing to wear for this special event. It's a common feeling of almost all woman.

We love to look great, special and beautiful. Something fabulous every time. Women have the same 'attitude' when comes to new attractive clothes, dresses, shoes and handbags... There is a cool site called Big Wardrobe run by Emma, and you get to online swap good quality designer clothes, or pay for them and sell yours. That way even if you have something that you have worn just once. You can get something new to take its place. Feels less wasteful, than just chucking it out. Many outfits, you can wear only a few times as they become recognmisable. Thats why you should buy Clasics and separates, which you can just add a piece to. This means that your wardrobe does not date as fast.

Dear Mandy, Thank you for informing us about Big Wardrobe. It sounds practical! It is true that we should go for those 'evergreen' design that won't get outdated fast. That's why I always wear jeans. It is so versatile and durable. However, it is not suitable for office use and special functions. Thanks for sharing and do keep in touch :)

I am very guilty of this. It's really one of the first things that come up to my mind when I get invited to a certain party or gathering. SOmetimes, it even becomes one of the key points and the deciding factor for me to attend the event. i know it may be silly for other people but I bet a lot of women knows what I am talking about..lol

Dear Calai, I am guilty too! You are absolutely right, it is a factor that we need to consider. My sister worked with the Government and she wears uniform everyday. However, she was transferred to another department lately which requires her to wear proper suits to go to court. She is having 'headache' just to think what to wear the next day. She do not want to repeat wearing the same one within the same week. So, she spend quite a big portion of her monthly salary to buy suits... Thanks for sharing and do keep in touch!

When I say "I've nothing to wear", that means I've no trousers to wear. My trousers versus shirts is 1:10. Funny eh?

Dear deenaly, Welcome to myLot! Glad to have you here Wow, your ratio of 1:10 need to be adjusted. Perhaps you need to add on new trousers of different cutting, colours/shades and design to have a better mix & match options. Your new ratio should be 3:10. We girls, at times find difficulty to find the suitable matching shoes and handbags to the attires we wears...girls are girls Thanks for sharing and do keep in touch!

Dear Maydayzjy, Welcome to myLot! Glad to have you here We, girls are the one contribute the most to the retail market, clothes / apparels industry and accessories business. We spend quite a percentage of our earnings on these to boost the economy! We always like to wear something different, something new to create a new mood, the 'feel good & feel great feeling'. Wearing the same outfit makes us feel 'not special' , do not spark s fresh, classy or right spirit... Thanks for sharing, truly appreciate it

In fact, when I go out ,I always complain that I have nothing to wear. Every time, when my parents hear my words, they are so confused, because there are so many clothes in my wardrobe. My parents often ssk me:" what kind of clothes do you want on earth?" Actually, I say I have nothing to wear not because I really have no clothes, but because I don't know what kind of clothes I should wear. Everyone, man or woman, desires to show their best before others. Also, I don't want to show a invarible image before others. AS a result, I always don't know what style of clothes I should wear to go out. so "I 've nothing to wear!" becomes my pet phrase gradually. And I believe that many people's thoughts are the same as mine, especially many girls.
