a shocking situation

What a shock, I had my picture taken, just a family snapshot, but who is that little white haired old lady. I realized that it must be me. I've never seen her before. Do I look in the mirror? Of course I do, I look for all those hairs that grow in weird places, I look for spots, red ones, brown ones and black ones. I look at hair on my head to see if I can go another week without a cut, or I look to see if my dress is on straight or if the colors go together, but I never and I mean never look at the old lady who looked back at me from those snapshots. If you are still young you most likely know what you look like but from middle age on I never did. Can you stand it? Take a look, at yourself silly, not me, I am only for family peeking

Hi pat, don't worry, at least you are still young at heart. Me, myself just in the middle ages and my hair still in it original color. But, I do notice that my skin not as flexible as before and some of my muscle turn into fat ...

Hey pat! LMAOOL! I know exactly what you mean! Every now and then when I'm out shopping and I happen to stop in front of a mirror I freak out! I look at the person staring back at me and I want to run away and hide! I always think "who is that old woman staring back at me?" When I left my house I didn't see her! What happened from the time I left my house until I got that next look in the mirror? When I had to renew my ID Card (non-drivers license) this year and they took that picture I almost had a heart attack looking at how awful I looked! I wanted to re-take the picture, but realized that it wasn't going to help!

It can catch you unaware and it’s an awful feeling. With me I don’t see white hair because I colour it religiously every month because I am paranoid of those greys. I can see the lines that were not on my face before but what shocked me as I walked past a store window the other week was the sight of a mature heavier than ideal body. I could not believe it was me! I always weighed around 50 kilograms and wore small sizes, it didn’t occur to me as I wore track pants every day how much weight I have gained! It made me feel so depressed that I haven’t had a Kit Kat in a fortnight!

My hair will not ever turn pure white, if I am like my mom. I am a big old lady, I guess. I know I am there. My most recent picture looks okay, though.

I was equally shocked to see a picture of a humpty dumpty look alike in our family snapshot last christmas. Though no visible gray hairs yet and face is still less wrinkled but OMG my shape has ballooned out and keep me wondering what I have wrongly fed myself with to deserve such an ugly body! I wouldn't dare to take picture again unless I reduce my weight.

Hi savypat, We all get a little shocked sometimes when we look at a recent picture, but I learned to accept it and say "wow! what a good looking man my father was". I'm sure that everyone's who's twenty today would be shocked if they could see themselves at fifty or sixty. Then again what twenty year old needs a shock like that! Blessings.

Sometimes I look in the mirror and it does shock me. I don't feel 55 and sometimes don't recognize that lady in the mirror. When did my hair start to go silver? My dad asked me that last year, he looked at me over the dinner table with a rather surprised look on his face and asked when did I get old? LOL! It's always a shock to realize how your children are aging, even if they're in their 20's like mine are. It's more of a jolt to truly realize that I am getting old.

Who is that woman in the mirror and what has she done with my body? :-) I remember being shocked almost 20 years ago, when a friend referred to my mom as a little old lady. She would have been about 55 - 56 at the time. I ain't that far off from that and I'm far from being a little old lady. Yikes...

White hair is a sign of wisdom. Only those who have cumulated enough life experience and wishdom grow white hair. It's a symbol of knowledge and seniority. I don't have any white hair yet, but I'm quite sure I'll grow some soon. I think I'll get quite excited to see my first white hair growing out!

Why not go through a total change then. I think you're there now and trust me, it will make you feel so much better after, it'll take years off you. You need to color your hair, thats it. Just do it and see how young you'll feel after. Pick a nice color, maybe a burgundy or red. I dont know what your skin color is like but Im sure a great hairdresser could help you with the change. Why feel old? Theres no need for it anymore. BUT, Im sure also that you're too harsh on yourself.
