Learning to drive a manual car later in life...40 onwards. Easy or difficult?

I am learning to drive a manual car in the UK. I am 45 and female, hahaha yes, be aware! I have noticed that my "fear factor" is much greater now than when I was younger. I am very aware of other drivers and probably far too cautious. Although I have been riding a 49cc scooter for many years I find my fear is much greater in a car than on a scooter. I suppose that with time and practise I will get used to driving a car and hopefully enjoy it too but at the moment it all seems quite uphill for me. I have taken around 20 lessons (10 2 hour lessopns) and am wondering how many more lessons I will need to feel confident and ready to take my test. I would like to hear from any other older drivers and their experiences.

i am in my forties also and have been learning to drive for a year now things are progressing slowly but progressing,as i have been told that the older you are the longer it takes to learn to driv, i am putting in for my test at the end of the year,i dont think its a game of how quick you pass just as long as you do safley though i am getting a bit cheesed off and really want to pass now

It all depends on the kind of person you are. Some people are afraid even to ride a bike so it doesn't matter how old they become they are not capable of driving a car.It will be a bit strange for you after so many years just sitting in the car as a passanger now to get the role of a driver but you may like it.

Yes it is difficult, but with practice you can do it.
