I know that there are a lot of people that are addicted to soda. I know that I am one of them and my husband is as well. So, it got me to thinking, how much soda do you drink on a daily basis or do you prefer to not drink any at all? What is the soda that you are addicted to?
For me, I'm addicted to Pepsi but I've really been able to cut down my consumption by a great degree. There used to be a day that I would drink six cans a day, but now I am down to two or maybe three cans in a day. I feel a lot better now that I'm not drinking as much as I used to drink.
Please share your experiences with me.

I drink 1 to 2 a day. My husband on the other hand, Mountain dew is all he drinks. Sometimes he will drink up to 9 in a day. It is crazy. It is very odd for him to drink anything else.

My husband too is very addicted to soda. I've been trying to tell him that he needs to cut back, but he either won't or can't do it.

I used to drink a lot of diet pepsi too. But now I have definitely stopped- especially as I am trying to lose weight. My son used to drink it first thin in the morning but now I do not buy pepsi or any sodas. If he wants it hen he would have to buy it. It is alleged that some people use pepsi to vlrean their battery terminals on their cars and all sorts of other things too.

I've heard that as well, but I don't know if there is any truth to it at all. Of course, I also am trying to stop the habit so that I am not pressing my luck.

MMM Soda Pop, every time I call Pop, Soda, I get called American...But I am Canadian, and in Canada you are "supposed" to call Soda, pop.
Either way, I used to drink a whole lot more, then I do now. I try to focus on drinking just water lately because before we started messing with nature, that is what we drank, because that is all there was to drink. So, that must be the best thing for us.
Thank you for your time, I appreciate you.

I called it soda pop for the purposes of this discussion because what it is called is really a regional thing. For me, I've always called it pop because that is what my parents called it. They were northerners but all of my friends call it soda because they are from the south.

I believe that you are the first person that has ever told me that I am a genius. Most of the time people just call me dummy.

Hi Dorann,
Since i started my diet--SERIOUSLY, i refrain from drinking soda. water is the best drink for me nowadays plus fruit juice. i seldom drink soda and if possible avoid taking one. i am scared about the though of taking so much sugar for drinking a glass of soda. let's live a healthy life!

I'm trying to change all of my habits that could be slowly killing me. I can't get rid of them immediately, but every little bit that I am able to cut out certainly helps.

What is really funny for me is that I grew up drinking Coke but changed over to Pepsi when I was in college because our campus was a Pepsi campus.

Sorry, what I meant is that my college campus had a contract with Pepsi Cola so that the only pop that they could sell was Pepsi products.

I hardly ever drink sodas.
Here we call them fizzy drinks or sometimes pop.
There was a discussion once on a housekeeping forum all about using cola to clean the toilet and how they used it in the USA to clean blood from accident scenes, that put me off for life LOL.
(not wanting to put you off too but it makes you think)
It is the acid content that does it, it acts like vinegar. If it can strip limescale from your toilet bowl(it really works) then what might it do if it is sitting inside you?

I'm pretty addicted to soda myself. I try hard not to drink as much as I used to. I can drink can after can if I'm allowed. I'm trying hard to cut back on it and drink no more than 2 cans a day. I'm trying to drink more water because one, soda is expensive and two it's not that great for your health. I'd prefer to drink more water but sometimes I'm just not interested in water because it has no taste and I need to drink something with taste!

One of the things that I will occasionally do with my water to give it a bit of flavor is add a piece of lemon to it. It actually makes the water easier to drink.

It is good to hear that you drink more water during the summer. When it is hot outside it is far more important to stay hydrated.

Maybe not on a daily basis, but weekly, I maybe have one or two cans. I don't really drink many sodas because I have had problems in the past with my teeth, and need to go careful.

It is important to take care of our teeth as well. I know that mine are doomed due to family history, but I'm trying to do what I can now to take better care of them.

I would say you are in the majority for people that consume 3 cans a day. Alot of people drink more soda than they should be but it does become addicting. I cut my soda intake alot about 3 months ago when i stop drinking anything with caffine in it. I have tried the pepsi no caffine but seriously its just not the same. Now that i switch to all caffine free soda it doesnt bother me much to go a day or two and now have any soda. When i was drinking caffine soda it made me just want more and more. I think eventually i will make the swtich to all flavored water and no soda but its not easy to give up something youve had so much of your whole life. Good for you for cutting down! WTG

I think that it is the caffeine that makes it difficult to stop. I wish that I was able to cut all caffeine out of my diet, but I imagine I would be very difficult to live with at least for a short time.

Mine is diet coke. I started in college, where I would have it for breakfast, and after every meals, and even beofre I sleep. At the worst I think I also drank about 6 cans a day. I would be thirsty at the middle of the day, and I would crave for a can. The worst is, I've taught myself to eat something first before drinking. That made everything worse.
This year, I vowed to cut down my consumption. I don't buy cans anymore. I buy the big bottles, and I only drink half a cup everytime.
Still a lot, but better than before.

I drink mt. dew everyday so I guess you could say I'm addicted. I always have one in the morning and then sometimes with lunch or dinner I will have one as well. I have recently started drinking diet mt. dew from time to time. It doesn't taste as good but it's better for me as I'm trying to watch what i eat and drink.

I can't drink diet soda of any type because it gives me headaches. So, when I feel like my consumption is too high I will concentrate on drinking a lot more water.

I used to drink a lot of soda, I would say probably one 2 bottles of 20 ounces a day. I did that for many years, and it really never affected me, my weight was always normal, until one day that I started to feel bad of my stomach, and went to the doctor he diagnosed Irritable Bowel Syndrome, so now he put me in this horrible diet where I can't drink any soda, I really missed it, but now 6 months later, I don't even feel the desire anymore, i got accustomed to don't drink it. But every once in a while I would love to drink a really cold can of soda.

I've never heard about soda being associated with irritable bowel syndrome, but that is good information to know. Thank you for sharing your story.

I used to drink nothing but Mt. Dew. I could go through a 2 liter a day, or 3 cases of 12 cans in a week. I gave up soda about 4 months ago. Since then I've only had a couple of cokes. I like to have soda if we go out to eat.. I feel like I'm cheating on my diet anyways, so I might as well enjoy my beverage as well. I also like to have soda on nights that we have pizza... again, I'm cheating anyways! I think I've had like 4 coke's in the last 4 months... not terrible at all. I might have some this weekend too when hubby and I go out... but I'm also thinking I'll have a few "stronger" drinks as well... so who knows.
The problem I have found is once I have the taste of soda in my mouth, it's hard to go back to water. I do best just staying away from it completely, otherwise one of these days I might decide I like soda so much better than water, and go back to it full time! That would be tragic.

For me it is something that I associate with eating so it is a difficult habit to break, but I am trying. My most recent quest in trying to quit was buying a soda that has significantly less sugar and drinking on that some. It tastes good but it costs more.

I used to drink soda everyday. coke and pepsi were my favorites. however, when i got diabetes, i stopped drinking soda. you know, soda has lots of sugar.. and too much sugar can lead to diabetes.. if i were you, i would limit my soda intake or better yet stop drinking soda.. consider drinking water and green tea.. both are beneficial to health.. good night!

...Hi dorannmwin, I love Wild Cherry Pepsi, it really is my favorite soda. If one can be addicted to soda, I would say that I am in that category. I love the stuff. The information that I have read about soda, of any kind, is that it destroys your bones, expecially women. I don't remember why it's more destructive to female bones as opposed to male bones, but that is the research. I have tried to limit my intake, but the temptation is very strong and I love the taste. So I go on fighting the good fight but Wild Cherry Pepsi is winning, I'm sorry to say. "o)
Take care.

Any time that we are addicted to something, it is definitely an uphill battle to win, but with enough desire, we are able to win the battle.

I like sweets and chocolates, but I don't drink much soda because I don't crave for it, and I don't like it especially when it's not too cold. Besides for me it doesn't totally quench thirst--it just fills me with lots of carbon dioxide and makes me burp often.
Anyway, six cans is too much!

Six cans was something of my past. Now it is more like two a day. I feel like I am taking steps in the right direction. Plus, with my new exercise class it is easier to drink less because all of that sweating makes me crave water.
