Going to a convention... what to expect?

I'm planning to go to a convention in Sydney (Australia) later in the year and I would just like to know what to expect from a convention in general? Like it organised? Loud? Messy? etc?
Also, how much should I bring? What clothes are suitable for this (in door location)?
And for the people who've been to one, please share you experiences.

what kind of convention is that?
Just to make sure that everything is in order and you wont be like total weirdos by wearing the wrong outfit.
You can try to ask the organizer or the committee in charge.
from your info, i think you should wear something formal. A black suit with tie will help.
