Okay, this is for all those whom love my food discussions. Specifiacally chocolate ones. This photo shows the treat I made for myself and wife recently. Went to Sam's Club and bought a huge tub of strawberries. Also had some chocolate chips left over from the Holidays so I melted the chocolate and made chocolate dipped strawberries. I melted the chips in a home made double boiler type deal. A large pot of hot, not boiling water then a smaller pan placed inside the water with the chips in the smaller one. I stirred it till the chips were melted then dipped the strawberries in the melted treat. Do you own a true double boiler for candy making etc?HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

Those are beautiful!
I do the same thing when I need a double boiler. I remember my mom used to have a set of Revere Ware pots and pans and a two of the pots were designed to make a double boiler as well as be used individually. When I need one, I do just what you did. Necessity is the mother of invention!

Yeah, why pay a fortune for a double boiler
when 2 pans work just as well I say.

I am the type that almost always has some type
of chocolate around the house. Right now I've
got about 3 lbs of it in various types and areas.
Yummy.

You had chocolate chips left over from the holidays?!?
Someone must have hid them on you, you chocoholic you.
As for the double boiler, yes I have one, but I rarely use it as such.
You know you could just melt the choco chips in the nuker...

Actually I do own one just for melting chocolate. I have not used it yet though. It came with different molds and things. It is sitting on top of my cabinets in my kitchen right now. You are making me want to run out and get some strawberries now.

Hi GRANDPA BOB,
They look so delicious, your wife is very lucky to have you, my hubby don't do anything like that as he don't even cook, he just eat, lol! I might do that myself and not give any to the hub, hehe.

Hey Grandpa Bob! You have my mouth watering now for sure! Your
wife, Debbie is one lucky lady! That sounds so incredibly
delicious! I love chocolate dipped strawberries! I even love
the white chocolate ones too and I usually don't like white
chocolate! I have just broken up with my boyfriend so this
Valentines Day is going to be a hard one! He is moving out and
I will be alone with my babies, Star & Luna and they can't eat
chocolate or it will kill them! I love them more than most humans
anyway! I wish I could have some of your chocolate strawberries!
This is going to be a very tough Valentines Day for sure! But,
I wish you and Debbie the best! Hugs, Leslie

I used to make chocolate lollipops before and sell it to friends. I just stopped making it coz we (me & my kids) are eating so much of it too. :) I just chocolates you know, and if there is anything that I couldn't say no to are chocs.
I don't have a double boiler, I just improvise. I'm kinda resourceful you know hehe. But still my chocs are good. :)

thanks for sharing this one.
should be an appropriate dessert for the upcoming valentine's day. had something similar but i added condensed milk and all purpose cream. later on, i added this strawberry mix to some chocolate ice cream and it was a blast! my daughter loved it sooooo much that she finished the whole tub by herself.
i'll be doing what you did. i especially appreciate the tip that you gave about the double boiler. it would definitely prevent the chocolate from havign a burnt taste.
cheers!!!

Well first, they look awesome and I hope they were as good as they looked!!!
Second, no we do not have a double boiler, we have a small house with very little storage and I am fighting with the storage I have since my mother in law, has given us a ton of stuff that she doesnt use anymore and then my grandmother passed away over a year ago and I took her old Oster Mixer/blender/food processor in one... and that has a ton of attachments.
Luckily we have a garage -- but when I am looking for a specific appliance it gets frustrating sometimes!!
the last time we made chocolate covered strawberries we bought the strawberries from a grocery store and they had these containers by them, it was chocolate and you put it in the microwave for so long and then dipped the strawberries in it and set them out to harden....and let me tell ya...they were a huge hit!!!!
I am going to have to make these again...it has been a while!!!
Happy Mylotting!!
