hello, friends.
food is one of the most pleasurable experience in life. i like eating different kinds of food and dishes from different countries. you can enjoy foreign dishes by just going to restaurants near you. but i feel sad each time i hear of friends who suffer from food allergy or allergies. sometimes they look so awful because they really wanna eat the food but they just can't due to allergy. but there are a few who just take anti-hestamine before or after eating or worse, eat a lot to gain immunity and oversome such food allergy.
i had developed some sort of allergy with seafood about 15 years ago. but i ate lots of them and i'm fine now. i can eat all i want as long as they're fresh or freshly cooked or prepared. i love california maki and almost all sorts of sushi.
how about you? have you got any kind of food allergy? do you avoid eating food which you're allergic at? just take medicine before or after eating or just eat lots to gain immunity?
i'll be glad to hear from you. thanks a lot.

I've developed allergies to pork, nuts and seeds and to a few other things as yet not known. I don't get really sick, but I break out in hives and itch something awful. I have to take an antihistamine to get enough relief to sleep. I'd like to eat a lot to become immune, but I don't think I could survive the process!

i'm sorry to hear about your food allergies. that must be really difficult when you itch all over. if you're allergic to just one food, maybe eating a lot of it to gain immunity maybe easier. but as you've said, it's too diffficult to try because your allergies are a lot. you need to be careful when you eat to restaurants.
thanks for your response.

I used to be allergic to seafood. I don't know what will happen but my mom told me that when young, I can't take them or I will have a terrible reaction after consumption. But strangely, when I grew up (without any medication), I started taking prawns and crabs and there was no terrible reaction at all, nothing happened. But as I haven't touched clams, oysters etc before (when young), I don't dare (till now) to eat them.

I am allergic to prawns and sulfites. Sulphites is type a preservative. Unfortunate for me, being asthmatic, it just makes things worse.
The last time I gulped down sparking water (grape flavour) I had such a horrible asthma attack.
For prawns, it my favorite seafood. When I was young, even a few was enough to cause me to scratch like mad, eyes swollen and lips looks like someone has just punched me. However, I ate is often (ate medicine before consuming the prawns) and gained immunity, which is to me, God's best gift for me. :)

I agree about taking a medicine before eating the food that you are allergic to. Don't overdo it though. To get immune to it, just eat a lot of it.In due time, your body will get used to it.

I never heard about this anti-allergetic medicine to be taken before eating allergetic food. I am allergetic to chat items, which are famous in India. Chat is preparing some forms in gram floor like thin thread like forms, round small balls etc., add onion, coriander leaves, jaggery water, tamarind water and some spice powder. It will be very tasty. But I am allergetic to it. I can eat three or four table spoon fulls. If I eat more, then I will have stomach problem.

Hello Cheiyen. I am glad to say that I don't have any food allergy, but I know some friends around me who do. It is really so upset for them not to be able to enjoy the food that they want to try due to its allergy. Take care.

I currently have an allergy to peas and carrots. I am not bothered by that, because my situation was much worse some 10 years ago. I wasn't able to eat chocolate, orange, lemon, honey, coconut, tomato back then. I am happy that this allergy has passed and I can eat all these products now. Unfortunately I am now allergic to carrot and peas, which previously didn't provoke any allergic reaction in me.

I am so lucky not to have or ever had any types of food allergies so that means I can eat whatever I want. I love seafoods so much and most of my friends have allergies to seafoods. That's why sometimes if I am really craving for a shrimp or crab I can't ask them out to dine at a seafood restaurant with me. I have one friend though who can't resist seafoods and he just takes medicines after eating.

Well am I allergic nuts, like many people, and although my allergy won't kill me it will make me seriously ill for a few days. So for that reason I do my best to avoid any food with nuts. I wish it was a case of being build up a tollerance to them but for me that is not possible. I certainly does become a pain when you go out to eat, which I rarely do, because so many things are cooked with nuts or in nut oil.

Well I myself don't have any food allergies thank goodness because I love all food. But anyhow, my four year old daughter is allergic to artificial pecan flavor. She can't have honey nut cheerios, or pecan flavored stuff. The first time she ate honey nut cheerios she was about one and a half and she broke our with hives from head to toe. Thank God I had some benydryl.

I am allergic to fresh ginger. We found this out one night when my hubby made the greatest orange chicken and rice dish. Boy I scarfed it up and then my throat went to closing up.
I am also allergic to strawberries, and sweet potatoes. Same thing happens. My throat closes up. Thank goodness for benadryl!
