Do you ever shut down your computer? Do you think shutting down your computer helps to boost your computer's performance and helps to save electricity? Some people actually said if you just leave the computer in stand by or sleep mode, the electricity consumed is minimal and you can get the computer to work faster when you do that. Do you think so?

the electricity is minimal in stand by but over the course of a year still add's upto a lot of money especially if you have say a 60 watt power supply, also some pc's are still consuming nearly the same energy on stand by as it is when turned on.
Leaving your computer running or on stand by basically doesnt improve the performance and will make your pc last shorter period of time as its still having power running thru the system.
So turn your pc off totally when you are not using it, saves electricity and in turn saves you money
and saving money is always good.

I never keep it on when I do not need it as in this place the current situation is unpredictable and keeping it on will be a load on the UPS. In the nights I switch off everything including my broadband connection.

I still shutdown my computer although I leave it on overnight. I'm usually downloading something at nights so I just let the download finish. I shut it down in the morning when I'm leaving for work.

I shut my PC down usually. Especially if I'm going to be away for a few hours.
Also, you have to at least let your PC rest.
Consumption of electricity of computer in standby or sleep mode is minimal but shutting it down would still let you save electricity.

I always shut down my computer. It will give rest to our computer and save electricity. If you leave in stand by or sleep mode it wastes electricity however it is minimal. I don't think if you leave it on, it will work faster. Some people may think if you leave it on, we can save our log in time. Shutting down your computer is good for it and also a good habit.

I shut down my computer when I am going to be away for several hours. Sometimes it is necessary to shut it down to reset the memory.

I shut down my pc for several reasons. One, is to save electricity. Two is to give a break to my pc and let is cool down. Even if you have the best cooler in you pc, as long as it is running it is giving out heat and heat is bad for electronic components. Third, is since I'm not doing anything with it, why would I want it running?
