I was riding a bike and on the traffic point i saw a blind person who was walking beside the traffic and when the traffic signal for walk was red, he stopped walking and when it changed to green, he started walking. From that time one question is striking over my mind that how does blind people identify the traffic signals? Can anybody answer it?

Hi! they just don't identify them, because they are blind and there is no chance to see the lights. That's why the clever ones have made the sound traffic lights' signal, when when blind people hear it, they no it is green and they can pass the street and if they don't hear anything, then they must stay and wait for the sound signal!

then he will not identify the signals, of course. There is no chance to identify the traffic lights and such people need some help and a companion!

In England, when the green man appears the traffic signal makes a bleeping sound making it easier for those who are visually impared.

Blind people usually have a strong sense of hearing. I guess he is taking the cue if its stop or go from the cars that is on his side. If the card on this side stops, then it must be a stop sign (red light).

Blind people had strong sense of feeling.
They grown up with it,and they're use to it.
They live from their senses, and that makes them do things of their own.
If a person get blinded as early as birth up t0 7 years old,the stronger sense of feeling they will had.
But is the person get blind at older age...most of them go to blind school to learn and practice to use their senses.

A blind person can tell when it's safe to cross the street by listening to the sounds of traffic. If there is a light at the intersection it is easy to hear when the cars going across in front of you start to slow down and stop and the cars along side of you start to move.

If they have a dog with them the dog will stop walking when the light is red and will continue walking when green. Some traffic lights also produce sounds different from when the light is green and red.
If you have more of this kind of questions please ask me and I will pose them to one of my female friends, she's being taught how to train dogs by a very famous Dutch dogtrainer.

I know here in South Africa especialy in Worchester where there is a blind school all the roborts give a sound, like if it is red the sound would be 1 ding and if it is green the sound would be 2 dings. The blind people also listen to the sounds of the traffic.
