Can we actually help the distressed people?

Hello friends, I know everybody has some empathy for every distressed person he encounters. There are lots of poor people we meet, or read about everyday. There are people who really need serious attention. I know there are lots of anomalies and unfairness in our social structure. There are people who are famished and there are people who wastes tons of food everyday. There are inequalities, rifts that are yet to be filled up. What can we do for these people? As an individual have you ever felt that you really need to reach out for them? We often sit on our couch and discuss the matter while watching television or eating popcorn. But how many of us really cares? I know there are governments, global organizations to manage everything. But, as an individual have you felt any obligation to do something for them? What do you think should be the first step to help these people? To what extent can we solve the problem? What can be proposed as a permanent solution for this? Take care God bless you all

The best thing to do t help those people that you've enumerated..is to start doing action. If you were rich or wealthy enough to give them foods and shelter then do it now. Good things undone will remain failure. So,once you think that doing good things to other people is good, then,at least give actions. Money is not the main problem actually,if you don't have the money to give and support those poor people at least you can asks some help from organizations that extends help. You can also be a volunteer...a lot of organization and charitable institutions were trying their best to reach the unfortunate ones. I am into charities...and i try to reach and help the needy in my own little way to reach them. This is the only way i know i can be a useful person when it comes to extending help. We can never help them just by thinking how can we help them. Action is the best answer.

If you can do it alone, the better. I even wonder if those billionaires will put hand in hand, joined together to contribute their wealth and do some charity works,then...half of the unfortunate ones in this world will be benefited that i am sure. We also had this campaign "just for one day" We are calling our countrymen to contribute "just for one day" of self sacrifice. With this program...we asks each and everyone to avoid smoking "just for one day" And for drunkards to stop drinking "just for one day" And give the money to anyone or any poor family around them. like for example..if a smoker is wasting one pack a day that costs US$1...for one day that he doesn't smoke,he can give that $1 to any street children or beggars. Then, can you imagine how many people who stop smoking for "just one day" and how many people will get benefit for that day also. And that is only for the smokers...let's add the drunkards...the gamblers. A gambler who loss much money for a night...how many mouth can a gambler feed instead of losing his money for gambling. This is just an example for our campaign. And...it's nice to know that you were practicing such action too.

Hi, I am so glad that you think like that. I think you are the very first person who appeared in this discussion who actually is performing what is needed and you are doing your best. When you love people beyond your family, feel for them work for them, you put in front of us a icon. But I am in fact, believe in individual effort. I don't believe in organizations, because I've seen some of them working. Of course, I am not making any sweeping generalization here. There are exceptions like the ones you are connected to. But, I have walked alone and I prefer to do it alone. I myself have quit couple of habits which I thought are luxurious and can be got rid of. I really appreciate your sincere contribution. Thanks for the participation God bless you

Hi dear friend. You must have noticed that my myLot username is faridmadeabillion. Yes, I want to be a billionaire or a trillionaire not only for myself but also to help the poor and helpless. If you look into my country, Bangladesh, you'll see that how abnormally the price of the essentials are soaring high causing us lose our sleep. And the govt. don't really care for us at all. The govt. people are busy amassing wealth for the comfort of their own future leisure when they'll not be in power. As a member of a poor family, I know it very well how much suffering and inconvenience is there to live in wants. And the bitter truth is the govt. is indirectly responsible for the abnormal price hike. They are not taking any action against the importers, hoarders and whole-sellers who are raising prices creating a false crises for these goods. While in relaxation, I always pray to Allah so that he may help me earn a vast amount of money with which I'll be able to help poor and helpless. If I get rich, I'll open a multi-departmental shop where all the goods will be sold at lower prices than the market prices. I think this will prove very much helpful for the poor. May Allah give us all good intention.

Hello, I think you have a very well thought out plan. You want to make a very sincere effort in order to ease the pains of those people. I really appreciate that. Yes, I know about Bangladesh. All sorts of foreign products have infiltrated the market and the prices have gone quite high. Ilish machher dam sune matha kharap hoegechhilo! You will get lots of resistance from some people to execute the plan you have. I hope you know what I am talking about and I think you are mentally ready for it. When the purpose is clear and honest nothing can prevent you from reaching your aim. God bless you always

Yes, my friend. I'm well aware that if I try to do something better, there will be obstacles from the unscrupulous people. I'm ready physically, mentally and spiritually to encounter all of them with my adamant inner force that derives from my faith on Allah. He must help em implement my plan. May Allah give us all good intentions.

Yes, my friend. If you are adapting this holy cause you will be needing a strong faith in Allah because he is the one charger and we human beings are batteries. Whenever material world will distress us we will regain our energy from him. In the holy scriptures of Hindu, ShrimadvagabatGita (you've probably heard about it) there is a clear instruction of surrendering everything to God. Offering all your services to God, knowing that all you are doing for those people is actually a kind of worship you are offering to Allah is the sole motivation you should have. I am so glad to hear about your sincere intention God bless you

My mother used to say "don't give them the fish, teach them how to go fishing" Do you see the difference? The only solution is to teach people. World was never fair. You can not help people who don't want to get help. Teach people who are hungry for knowledge and they are willing to learn.

I should remember that you are from India. I have not been in India. In America and Europe children are in school. In order to have an idea, someone need to be from your country.

I know that Americans believe that education can be a solution to many social problems. I am glad to acknowledge that I do share the same philosophy but I will format it in my own version. I not only want to educate people but I want to make sure that they feel obliged to educate themselves even if there are other factors hindering them to do so. I have a plan to take all responsibility of a child as long as his family is willing to educate him. I know it would be a difficult task. I will have to bear expenses not only of his education but also a part of his family. But that little effort may encourage others to do similar things. I do appreciate your finding the root cause, which I too believe is lack of education. My sincere regards for your valued participation. Take care

Hello, Have you ever for yourself taken the effort to go all the way to some really poor person and offered to teach? I don't think you did. Believe me Pola, it is a difficult task to learn things when you are hungry. People especially the intellectual class talk a lot about child labor, but what they are not aware of are the situation and pressure under which a family sends its children to work. They refuse education not because they don't know the utility, but because they feel its better to devote time working than learning. Its a difficult situation altogether. But I've thought of a solution here which I will only disclose after your feedback. Thanks for participating God bless you

I think that by putting our heads together we can all come up with something that would help. I believe that listening to people talk about their problems does help with emotions, but your right only by taking action do we solve any problems. I hope that your are successful in your journey to help those in need. Would it help if you chose one particular need and shoot for it? You are already promoting the idea by posting your concern. So maybe if people give you suggestions and direction to point you. Action could be taken and Goals can be met. Blessings and good luck to you.

Thanks so much for the encouragement. Yes, I know this path I've chosen will need much strength and support. Though I prefer to work alone, I will be needing lots of cooperation from other people. But even if I don't, I have to intention to retreat. I have made this the sole purpose of my life. Thanks once again for wishing me success. God bless you

hi! Yes, I think we can help distressed people, like try to listen to them and to their problems, because the most of the distressed people, are distressed because of some pressure or problem in their daily round and there is no one to help them, or nobody, who want to do it. So the first step by helping distressed people is to listen to their problems and to share ours with them, so that we can make a connection between us and them, and I think it is going to work!

Hi, I agree to whatever you mentioned here. Yes, we have to listen to them. We have to have empathy. We have to actually feel how it feels to be distressed. A first hand experience is a must for a sincere effort. But the first step should be taken by cleaning ourselves of a couple of things. We have to change our habit to indulge in material stuffs. Only then we will acquire the ability to think about others. Being submerged in extreme pleasure and talking about sacrifice will be a highly unethical thing to do. I know I still have a lot to learn but I am on my way to perfection and I have a strong determination which by God's will prevail till the end. God bless us all
