Where does "evil" come from?

I think we must agree that "something"; some "force", some "influence", some kind of nebulous energy or entity or other form of power, seems to be at work all around us; encouraging certain sentiments and attitudes in some people. Where else could some people come up with some of the stuff they do?
Why is it that some people like to glorify and otherwise embrace attitudes and behaviors that really speak of some pretty nasty influences? Why is it that attitudes and behaviors like "greed", "gluttony", "death", "murder", "deception", "corruption"...and a host of similar things, are promoted everywhere we look?

nah good and evil is just man made,
to some people what is evil is actually good and to some people some acts which people think are good they consider evil.
to give an example - if a loved one is terminally ill and suffering I for one would be in favour if the loved one wanted to end their life I would gladly help,
but to some that is evil and no life should ever be taken
so it man made and subject to the individuals belief

its the individual that determines good or evil not a higher force,
you mention murder is evil, what is murder its taking another persons life,
so mercy killing is murder, anybody who is a soldier on operations is murdering by taking lives etc etc everything in life is not that black and white they are grey area's.
Terrorists are widely classed as evil yet to some they are heroes. Here in uk we used to have conflict in Northern Ireland people being killed and blew up is that evil to one party it is but to the others they are simply protecting their lands and homes.
Which is why its a simply man made concept, everybody has different views on what is good and what is not good.
