This is a great topic as there are many myths & beliefs. There are so many "natural" and "raw" diets on the market, obviously there's something good about it. We've been feeding raw food for years. Not the store bought stuff, I prepared everything at home. My husband used to compete our dogs in strenuous dog sports so he wanted them to be in the best condition, like human athletes. I took the time to get the right vegetables & fruit and blend them to a pulp since dogs don't digest vegies the same way people do. NOTE: Never give a dog onions, grapes or raisins. Very toxic to their systems. In addition, I would give them raw chicken pieces - bones and all. For an extra treat, I would give chicken feet! Yes, the talons. It's disgusting to watch but they love it. I could go on and on about this and have some recipes, supplements, etc. I could probably write a book from experience. Anyway, I barely scraped on this topic but if you want something more specific, I could probably answer it. I do have a complaint about it ... the food took up a lot space in our fridge & freezer.

maybe it depends what kind of dogs do you have. a common dog in india sometimes eat grass. sometimes dogs catch fish alive and greedily devour it.
