The leaves of the Stevia plant are very sweet. Stevia is an herb, so it is an all natural way to sweeten food and drinks without adding sugar or honey. It is a good alternative for diabetics, too. You can crush the leaves and stir them into your juice, tasting as you add each couple of leaves so you can control how sweet the juice becomes. Stevia is also available in crystals that are packaged.

Hello cycle and welcome to myLot. I presume that you are make apple and pomegranate juice. Apple juice with out adding sugar is one of the naturally sweeter juices. since it already has about the equievelant (sp) of 10 teaspoons of natural sugar in a 12 oz serving why add any for sweetener?

Oh thanks for the info, I don't add any sweetener as you said but my child says it is very plain without a sweetener and refuses to drink without sugar. So only asked others opinion.

Berry juice is normally very sweet. Apple's already sweet though, so I dunno why you need a sweetner...
Agave is a cactus nector...which isn't honey, but the syrupt from the flowers of plants (honey is nector that's gone through the body of a bee, so it's not technically a nector anymore)...and diabetics have used agave without negative results. Only issue is, unless you're growing it yourself, it's hella expensive.

hi cycle6060 get some stevia, its sold in health food stores and is herbal and a little does a great job of sweetening with out aftertaste or chemicals either. then just put a few drops in a cupful of pure unsweetend apple or pomegranate juice. You will lot need very much stevia to sweeten it for a child.

Hi cycle6060
There are several options for a sub for sugar besides honey. Don't know if you've tried any of these but here they are.
Agave nectar - sweeter than sugar and should be used in lesser amounts. 1/3 cup agave substitutes 1 cup sugar.
Rice syrup - made from brown rice and very delicious. could definately be used in making juice.
Date sugar - made by grinding dates together. Is used exactly like sugar and is available in powder or liquid.
Stevia - an extract of a sweet leaved plant. available in health food stores as are most of these.
There is always maple syrup too, but not for juice I wouldn't think..great in some cooking applications however.
Hope this helps you somewhat. J

So there are so many options which I didn't think of, yeah I have date syrup and maple syrup but didn't think of adding as sweetener, will try it out next time. The other options also seem very tempting will have to start trying it out. Thanks for all the input sulsisels.
