When you focus on just the bad things...

While attending the "school of hard knocks", I learned that if you focus primarily on a persons mistakes or "bad" side, it makes it hard for them to realize all the good they have to offer. I think it is important to focus on a persons good traits so that they feel good about themselves and aren't steered towards the mistakes and bad things they do. Of course, it is also important to touch on the bad so they realize their mistakes, none-the-less, focusing on the good traits gives the person the opportunity to shine! "I didn't think anyone noticed that about me." is what one person said when I noticed their good side. I'd like to hear your feedback on this.

I think that it does help other people but most of all it helps us too. Holding on to negative feelings about someone can turn us into something we don't want to be. I think that it makes us feel good to be able to focus on the good things that someone does versus something they may have done in their past. If you focus on their strong traits, I agree that the person will try harder to keep that image. Sometimes they do just need someone to notice.

Some people find beauty in everything they see, while others live their life focused on finding everything else but the beauty. Rather than pick someone up, they would rather kick them when they are down, and if the person gets up, they'd rather knock them down than keep them standing. It tends to feed their ego and image. Handing a person some money to get a bite to eat does not say as much as an invitation to dine.

You are so right. One bad thing can linger long past ten good things. We carry those problems around with us for our entire life.

People do tend to forget about all the good a person has done once something bad happens to that person. The bad also seems to be blown way out of proportion while the good is basically taken for granted.

This is very true. Being in an environment where everyone points out nothing but negative things, can cause you to underestimate your true self worth. positive reinforcement is very important. Taking note of your own great deeds can go a long way to advancing once success rate in their chosen task(as well as booth their moral.)

Sad but true! Once you lose your self worth, there isn't much foundation left to build on.
