I heard this on the news today! He had a massive stroke on January 29,2010. I was very sadden to hear of his passing. Captian Phil was my favorite captian on Deadliest Catch. He was the captian of the Cornelia Marie. Phil alway was over stress being fishermen. If not worring about meeting the fishing deadlines, catching the craps,Phil had to deal with the crew. Two were his sons Jake and Josh. I'm sure stress, smoking and other things contributed to his stroke. He was only 53. Phil Harris will be greatly missed. He was one heck of a fisermen and captian!

I was listening to a sports radio show today, and heard about what happened. That show is one of the most compelling things on television right now. I always figured those guy s didn't care about the cameras being there. They didn't go out of their way to put on a show or do something goofy. They were all as natural as could be, and I guess the environment played apart in that. The content physical and physiological stress has to be the most dangerous aspect of what they do.

He smoked like a freight train. The stress combined with his chain smoking and bad diet (who in the world can have a good diet all the way out to sea) did him in, but the smoking... I know most of the other captains smoke too, but they didn't seem to have Phil's other health factors like weight.

Crab fishing is the world's deadlist job on the planet! No wonder we love to watch this show! Those guys are nuts but if they didn't do it there would be a show about it! This is one of the reason's I have watched this show. The real drama and that they don't play to the camera! My hat's off to these men!

Is this true? I came from a different country but I also love watching him on the show. In fact, I just finished watching a reply of their show. How sad this is, surely, the show will never be the same without him.

I know, my heart sunk when my sister e-mailed me this morning. I knew he had a stroke, but then I read he was responding well to treatment, and had been able to talk a little to his family. It's just so hard to believe a larger than life guy like him could be gone. He was my favorite captain on the show. Apparently, this was all during filming of course, but I wonder just how much they will show. Like the other captains reactions when they find out...will that seem too personal for the network to show the viewers? If I were Phil's family I would want people to see how loved my dad was, and how much of a fighter he was, even until the end.

Phil was a chain smoker and I remeder once he said he would get so stressed out he would have 5 lite cigerattes at a time and not realize he did it! I think Phil had high Blood pressure but I'm not sure. I hope Deadlest Catch will show the reaction of the other captains and crews members of Phil's passing. All the crabbers are like family and I know this has been hard on like the others crabbers like the Hansen's of the Northwestern. Phil Harris will be greatly missed by his family, the fishing world and us viewers.

My entire family enjoys watching Deadliest Catch. I saw mention of Phil's passing on America Online yesterday. My husband really felt bad about it as well as did I. Phil seemed to care a great deal about his crew. The show to me has always been the best reality-type television show I have ever seen. These guys who work those boats risk their lives every day. Smoking and stress are definitely two bad combinations. Phil will definitely be missed by all of his viewers. This is one show that my entire family would sit around and watch. We would even call my brother after the show sometimes to discuss it with him as he was a follower as well. Rest in peace, Phil.

Deadliest Catch is far the best reality show on tv. It is so real and the guys don't ham it up for the camera! This fisherman are hard working and crazy for what they do! It is the deadlist job on earth and when you watch that show you know why! That show is truly one of the few shows on tv a family can watch together! We all will miss Captian Phil Harris!
