The only white dress you should even consider wearing white shoes with is a wedding dress. White shoes are never a good choice from a fashion standpoint and make what you are wearing look cheap. If you are wearing a white cocktail dress, a strappy high heeled metalic sandal is perfect. Metalics should be considered a basic like black. they go with almost everything. They also don't stand out too strongly from the white. And to answer a question you didn't ask, but need to know - you absolutely NEVER wear nylons (or pantyhose) with a sandal....period. But you DO get a pedicure so that your toes are polished and your feet groomed. YOu never wear a sandal without doing that either!

If I were to wear a white dress, then I'd wear all white through and through. That means white shoes, white bag and white accessories. I'd be purely white and will make sure even my heart is.
I can also wear white dress and combination of another color such as pink. My shoes and my bags and all my accessories should be all pink.

Before I thought about the color of my shoes I would think about the accessories I was going to wear with the dress. Then the color of my shoe would be apparent. I adore white and red. Purity and naughty really excite me. So if I had on a sexy white cocktail dress I would pair it up with ruby earrings a chaste necklace then very bold red shoes.

Luckily a white dress is good with pretty much anything so just pick a colour that goes with the impression you want to make and voila!

You can always go with black, or tan. It would have to be something that would match your skin tone though, that way it looks like you're not waring any shoes, or they blend with your stalkings, or whatever you put between the shoe and your skin (if you do). The shoes need to be confortable as well, so unless you can stand heals, go with flats.

Is your dress pure white, or is there another color on the dress (such as colored ribbon, lace, or the like)? If so, you might want to wear shoes that match that color. If not, then you need to create an additional color in your appearance, with shoes to match. Black is an easy color to work with.

I don't think all white shoes clash with a white dress as long they aren't too bulky. I do agree that it can depend on your accessories, but as a staple I would suggest gold, brown or maybe a light color shoe like a sky blue, pale pink or mint green.
