I learned how to use the computer by playing games. I learned how to control the mouse by playing minesweeper and the keyboard by playing pinball. After that I got really confident and moved on to other stuff.
You how did you learn to use the computer? what was the first thing that you were confident about it?

I learned by doing various things for school. I saw computers actually "evolve" so everything I did was self-taught. I first learned to use the computer's keyboard to play gamdes like dragon maze and space invadors. while learning how to type. learning to use the mouse came later (mice hadn't been invented yet) and then I eventually progressed to browsing the web and learning how to type "correctly". (I took a class during my first year of high school as a requirement). And, the rest was history.

Well actually no such thing existed at first. it was just the keyboard and monitor. flopy discs were floppy literally. I'm talking early 80's here when I first started using computers on a regular basis. Windows didn't really exist it was all doss based.

I think I still saw some tape drives in a box somewhere in our house. Not only are floppy discs floppy, they were BIG.
Amazing how far the technology of data storage has developed. WE even have micro sd now.

As far as I am concerned, I began to use the computer when I was about ten years aol. The first I learn aboutt the computer is how to turn on the computer then off. That is the first I learn about the computer. And the next, I just learn something about how to play compuyer games which give me a lot of fun in my childhood.

I find easier to teach people how to use computers if we start with playing games first. It makes the learning process fun.

The first thing I learned about computer was programming through DOS. Fell in love with it and I eventually took a course of computer programming in college. Sadly, I wasn't able to continue this passion because I took a job as a banker after graduating. DOS programs are still available in my current job.

i started using computers from my school. I was taught to turn on and turn off the computer in school.During our lab classes we played a lot of mario and prince. This helped us in using a lot of keyboard. Then we used to play other games using mouse such as minsesweepers helping us use the mouse. Then in the next year we started more serious stuff like word etc etc... This was how i started using the computer... It was really fun using and great experience.

I wonder why it takes so long to learn computers in formal classes. It really seems so complicated.Sometimes boring too

I started by playing games too. I played Bookworm, Mystery Case and Zuma. I did find it hard to learn on how to use the mouse but in time i got used to it. Then, slowly i built up the confidence to try other things on the net too. Now, i enjoy being on the net using my pc at home and doing my work at the office.

Mystery files is one of my favorite games. I play it with my nephews. Amazing how little children adapt easily. My nephew can play mystery case files by himself when he turned three. And he can't read yet. I think he memorized the words when he was just watching me play. Now he knows what image goes with what word.

Who knew that there would be fun in playing pinball, right? The highest score I got was 10M. It's quite addictive. I think the F2 in my keyboard got erased because I couldn't stop myself from starting a new game.

I got my first computer in 1998 and it still had Windows 95 on it. I learned how to use it by playing my only game, Timon and Pumba's jungle games. Then I started typing things for school and home and I had quite a lot of fun. I know computers really well now because I was the first one in my family and even of my friends, to start using the computer so I can do things they can't do because I've already read about them or tried them. I was always really confident about my computer skills, especially after realizing that the same thing I can do at home, a repairman can do and he then charges you 50 euros or something.

I get a lot of savings from fixing the computer myself. The first time I tried and succeeded I was really jubilant. My mother gave me the money for having it repaired and she said I could use whatever way I like. I bought a nice video card with it.

My grandma's fave, solitaire! In playing games we are the same.
My mom thinks that it's the only thing you can do with computers. She calls it the bulky psp

The first thing I learned to do on a computer was word processing. This was back in the year 1985, and the computer I was utilizing had two floppy drives and no hard drive. I took a word processing course at a college and also asked my father who was an engineer for some instruction. Then, the main thing that helped me was just reading the computer manuals. Trial and error and reading was what got me through to different levels of computing.

Yeah I learned not to take those manuals for granted. Some of the things I had to research were in the manual in the first place.

Oh, I'm going to show my age now! The first thing I learned how to do on the computer was how to look at the directory in DOS. After that I taught myself to write some computer code so that I could store names and phone numbers on that computer. That computer did not have games...it did not even have Windows.

I got my first computer when I was 14. It was a very simple computer. I was able to write a little bit, but most of all I used my computer to play games. My father helped me install the games, and the rest of the things I learned by trying and experimenting. My brother and I usually played games together, and we had a lot of fun. It took such a long time for the games to load, and sometimes it didn't work. When I was 16 I got another computer and I learned how to write, save my documents etc. Some of I learned on my own and some of it I learned at school. My German teacher knew a lot about computers, and he sometimes helped us.

I think there was a game I kept seeing inside in my head back then. I don't know what it's called but there was a ball bouncing around and you have to catch it. I really got addicted with it.

I first learned to operate the DOS and tried to install equipment in the computer. At that moment I did not have a mouse and just to try the commands available in DOS. Viruses have been around before, but there is no way to prevent and clean up.

Can't imagine what a headache it was to fix computers in dos. Even now with the interface getting better and better, I still find it hard to deal with a stubborn virus. It takes a lot of control for me not to format everything.

Well, the first thing that I learned was the DOS commands because back then you needed to know DOS to be able to run programs/software, copy/delete files etc. I had Windows 3.1, but you needed to use DOS commands to go to the directory and find that executable file to be able to run it to get into windows. Do I sound old? don't answer, zip your lips hehehehe

not at all...I find people who learned to use dos are the ones that can troubleshoot their systems easier. so even though I learned through GUI I still go back to dos from time to time.
