I have quiet a few friends who read a lot, majority of them I feel don't believe that what we read can be applied to our lives, of which 50% i agree, but i have come across a lot of books, quotes, articles where i have learnt a lot and have actually applied that aspects in my life.... how about you?

WE read the book who moved my cheese a little while ago and I found it very thought provoking and simple and sensible. When I told my husband about it, he thought about what his cheese was and I thought about what mine was . I think it is an excellent way of looking at goals and changes in your life. I also like the book the richest man in Babylon which is all about how to manage your money. It is a similar type of book because it gives the ideas across as tales and you can watch the tales unfold and see the rules without feeling like they are aimed directly at you in a commanding way. When ever I borrow a library book ,I hope to learn something from it,even if it is just fiction.

yeah! its a great book.... great insight on life.... fiction books more often than not end up telling us the facts in life, further they also add interest despite of these facts being up there

I read quite a bit of fiction, so not a lot of it will apply to my own life. But I do try to get inspiration and learn from things I read.

There are lots of positive thinking books in the market like Daily Bread. But, it is waste reading those books unless the person who reads them is oepn minded enough to take valuable points from the book. I read a lot of those books, but I take very little points to myself. I think I take more points that I learn from my experience to my habit and character than things I read in books.

again... i think i put my question using wrong words, my basic curiosity is for people who are closed minded and read books, i've known people who read a lot, but when it comes to application, they follow their own principals, perhaps something they think is right from their day to day busy lives.... thanks for your answer

Very seldom do I read fiction. I would say that I try to apply almost 100% of what I find to be possibly helpful. I have gotten to the point of reading a lot from the library. When I find a book that I know I will be making notes in, I then purchase it and highlight/outline areas of interest so that I can refer to it quickly. This has helped me in writing and being able to reference quickly when I need a refresher in a given area. Most books I try to buy in soft cover and put clear contact paper on the covers to keep them in good shape. The books range from natural health to cooking, crafts, spirituality, self-improvement, organization, management, art, home schooling, computers, etc. The list is whatever hits my fancy for the day or week. Life is always an adventure.

Great!,,, you seem to be someone who reads books to learn, instead of learn from whatever book you read... well said... life is always an adventure ... "for some"

I read so many books but honestly speaking I have forgotten them already. I can onl remember the things I apply in my life. These days, I read again and I always try to apply it in my life.

Wonderful... you are the one i was looking for, i appreciate your answering my question, how did you realize the essence of books or their valuable contribution? how do you think you missed life without books, or rather missed books with your regular lives, do you think computers have something to do with your decreased interest...

well you cant really know how much you apply what you read in your life because you dont exactly keep track of some knowledge that you use and apply in your life.
