I don't think you can depend on blog walking for traffic. Also, i think most traffic from blog walker is not really useful. They just come for a few second, and make random comment and then walk away. So for now, i rarely do blog walking. If people come to my blog, i really want for them to read the article i write. Well, at least that what i think. Thanks.

Hi Nophie, is your blog a dofollow blog or nofollow blog?
If you can change your blog to a dofollow comment blog, you can add to followlist, and those interested readers will come to add comments.
i dont really bother with blogwalking. However, I have a few blogs which I make blog commenting regularly. The purpose is not really for traffic. It's more to get backlinks to my blog, and that will increase the SERP and PR.
Have you joined forums? You might as well join a few forums such as digitalpoint to mingle with other bloggers.

Blogwalking is effective if you want to have blogger friends as well as get traffic.
I guess your friend's blog has either good content (or one which many people are searching for) and good search engine rankings(which can be manipulated if you know how).
I have a blog but my visitors are around 200 per week.
Quite low when I know there are some people can achieve that in a day.
