Is it just because these students are mediocre? is it because they dont make any effort? or is it because the system is failing?

Never. Students these days are very ignorent to studies. They never take anything serious and end up loosing everything. They dont even bother to attend the class, have fights with teachers. For having better grades they should work harder and practice their work which most of them never do.

I agree with you, but dont you think that they system may be failing on motivating students to appreciate education?

I think it's a combination of all three, so don't blame it on the system just yet. Most of the students in my classes are failing because they don't do their work, they don't study, and in general they just don't make an effort. Then there's this one class where the teacher is really hard on everybody and keeps telling us that she told us things she never actually told us. That'd be the class where the system is failing. If you're a student, and you're failing your classes... step back for a minute and consider why you're failing. Are you doing your work? There's no excuse for why you're not doing it. Are you trying as hard as you possibly can but seem to fall short? Time to talk to the teacher about what you can do better.

Totally agree with you, if students are failing, we should consider and analyze all factors which might be influencing.

It could be a number of things or a combination of them. The system is actually probably the least likely to be the one to blame - unless you count financial services at college. They have caused all sorts of problems for some of my friends. But, the majority of problems lay with the student. Maybe they were forced to come to college and don't want to be there, or they wanted to but now they are tired of school (I'm the latter). Maybe they are hanging around with the wrong people and their "friends" think studying is overrated. Those are just the tip of the iceberg of options, but it all boils down to what the student chooses to do.

Well, in my opinion it is actually the student. If it was the system that was failing, then all students would get low grades. But only some are doing poorly while other students can do well. It really depends on the student. If someone fails a test and other people pass it you can't blame the test for being too hard. It's just that the person didn't pass it.

I think it's mainly down to the student themself. Nowadays, too many people point the finger of blame at the system because little Johnny barely scraped a D. I believe that the more effort a student puts into learning, the better the grades they will reap at the end of it

You're right, thanks for the response. However, I also have to say that sometimes the system doesnt help the students either.

I'd say mostly it's down to the student. If he just isn't interested then there's just so much a teacher can do. Like my teacher used to say, 'I'll show you the door, but you have to walk through it'. I for one think the system is completely fine. It's down to the teachers. I was so-so in Maths back in Secondary school. Got to college, and my A-Level Math teacher was AMAZING. He's the one who got me an A in the subject! =D

I think most of the people would blame the student himself.! But accroding to ke a student fails in a subject only due to his dislike for the subject and to a certain extent, we can also say that the education system is failing .! The students are being burdened with a hell lot of books and homeworks and things to be crammed with a deadline in front of him ! Oh common how much can a student work???!

I think it depends on the student and the situation. Yes there are students who get low grades because of the teaching method used. Not every person learns the same way and are able to absorb and understand the information that is given to them. However, there are some students who just refuse to put in the effort for whatever reason- whether its laziness, resistance, rebellion, or the thought that none of it matters.

I believe it's because of all three. I went to a different high school last year and I failed two classes. I tried so hard to get good grades but I just couldn't pass. I switched schools and realized how much better my new school is. The teacher doesn't just give you a worksheet and send you off on your own. They talk to you like your real people and explain things to you. People are nicer too so I'm not always worried about bratty girls or guys who think there awesome. Some students don't apply themselves because they just don't care. Everyone knows that but then there are those of us who just struggle. School is getting harder and harder but sometimes the teachers aren't trying harder to help us. When do you expect from public education?
