Do you think you could read 100 books in a year?

Hey mylot readers! Last year I read 91 books and I made a new year's resolution to read 100 books this year. So far I've read 12 books. 11 fantasy and 1 thriller. Yeah, I'm slightly biased in picking my genres... but I'm making an effort to pick up books that aren't fantasy. I actually got a science fiction book when I last went to the library.
Do you think that you could read 100 books in a year? If not, how many do you think you could read? What kinds of books would they be?

I could definitely read 100 books in a year, that is, if I would have that much time to read. I'm a very busy person, but when I do find time I really read. It's a hobby that I would never get tired of. I also love fantasies like you do. I have read many fantasy books.

I know I could. I started reading again, and I would say I have finished about four books in less than two months. I love reading and I glad I started reading again. I will be getting some new books soon after I finish the ones that I have. I am one chapter away from finishing a book right now actually.

Go for it! You might already read 100 books in a year, you've just never counted. lol I read around 2 books a week, with mutant weeks where I read more or less. It depends.

A 100 books for a year. That is so cool. Nowadays I don't really
have time reading books. I am working and I am also busy
posting in myLot.LOL. Last year I read a lot of books though
but I don't really count how many I've read. If you don't mind why are
you planning to read a lot of books?what's you're purpose for doing so?

First of all, I love to read. I'd probably read close to 90 books anyway without even trying. Secondly, the habit of reading is becoming extinct these days. It's a shift that I resent. I think the world would be a better and more educated place if everyone would take the time to read every once and awhile.

I keep track of what I read through goodreads.com. It's really easy. I have a list that says how many books I've read this year alone. I don't enjoy e-books at all. They're no fun for me.

I've been keeping track of the books I read since 1975. I have a year end (which is looming at February 18th) so I also keep track of the number of books I read in a year, and the number of books I've read by favourite authors, even a separate page with the books broken down by author. The past few years I have been focusing on my writing so not doing a whole lot of reading. When my year end looms, like it is right now, I try to cram in some thin novels so I can up my quantity. That's not obsessive, is it?
The most books I've read in a year is 55. That was probably when I had an hour commute by bus. I did a lot of reading back then. The numbers range from the lowest, 7 books in one year, to 55 in one year. Funny how there are two years (11 years apart) where I read 55 books in a year. Reading 778 books over 32 years averages out to 24 books a year. I can say I think I've only read abou 10 this year. I don't think I would ever be able to read 100 books in a year... not if I want to become a published author.

Well it's not any more obsessive than me. I found out I was going to have to do 6 hour video shoots at school and I ran out to the library to get some short books. lol I keep track of what I read through goodreads.com.

At a school I substitute for, they have charts for students. The goal is to read at least 100 books a year. Some kids are on 400 and one kid made it to 700! But some of the books are not very thick. Some are less than 100 pages, some in the lower grades are 50 pages.

We did something like that for elementary school. The funny thing is that I just barely made it to 100, and none of the books were very long. Most were children's/picture books. I didn't really like to read as much as I do now.

I did the math, and you would basically have to read a book every 3 1/2 days (3.65 days actually but I am not getting that technical with it) in order to complete this task. Depending on the length of the books you are reading, that may not leave much time for too much of anything else, but I guess it could be done. LOL

Like I said in my post, I read 91 books last year. I wasn't really even trying to reach a specific number, I just do a lot of reading. I was still spending loads of time on other tasks. I figured it out to be roughly 2 books per week. So far I've read 13 books in six weeks. (Yes, I finished another book after I started this discussion)

That sounds like a lot of books! It depends on the thickness of the books! I love reading and I have lost count at how many books I have read in this new year, it's a lot though. My favourite genre is horror! My favourite author is Stephen King and I have read most of his books and I constantly await any new books that he has published. I also love reading melodramas and family sagas, they're tend to be quite inspirational. Here's to a love of books, may they always remain in existence! Andrew

It's definitely possible for you. You had read 91 books last year. Only 9 more this year. The target can easily be achieved by you. But is no way possible for me. I am not so fond of reading. Moreover, I have become so busy of late, that I don't get time to read. But seeing you I am planning to start reading immediately. Detective and romantic books interest me a lot.

Yes! Please read! You don't need to read 100 books, or even 50. Maybe five. Just read something! Anything!

Hello allyoftherain!! Wow, I'm really amazed with your goal for this year. I think I'll never read 100 books in one year!!
Well, since I got recently married, I'm reading a few books about that, I also read the Bible every day. I'm reading one book about the mind and I think that's just about it!!
I have NO idea how many books I read per year but its more than one and less that 100, that's for sure!! On the other hand my parents both read very much, but my mother is reading all the time so maybe she'll read that amount of books!!
Wich fantasy books are you reading, wich ones do you like the most??
Well, good luck completing your hundred, but enjoy them too, Libna!

I read the Bible every day too, but I only read about a chapter a night so I'd never be able to finish it in a year. It took me four years the last whole read-through.
Right now I'm reading, "The Lightning Thief" by Rick Riordan (Percy Jackson and the Olympians). I just recently finished "Blood of the Fold" by Terry Goodkind. I really like high fantasy and some of my favorites are The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle, The Unicorn Chronicles by Bruce Coville (I have a bit of a thing for unicorns), The Icemark Chronicles by Stuart Hill, The Dragon Keeper Chronicles by Donita K. Paul, The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis, and The Legend of the Guardian-King series by Karen Hancock.
I'm now up to 13 books by the way, and I'm about halfway through number 14.

if i would be paid for each book i read then yeah i think i can read 100 book in a year. but if i would be reading it without any motivations then i think i cant do it since it will be wasting most of my time, cuz 100 book a year means i have to read everyday of that year.

I never tracked how many books I read until last year. I read a lot, so I started out trying to read 150, and wound up reading over 500. I used the site goodreads to list mine. I read mostly romance and mysteries, but this year I've added a few nonfiction books to the list.

I could for sure. I love to read, it is one of my favorite passtimes. I don't read a lot of Sci, but I always check out any recommended book! True crime is my favorite!
