We all have lots of memories from our childhood. Some of these memories are great memories, some of them aren't such great memories.
I'd like to know about the great memories. What is your favorite memory of your childhood?
For me it is our family vacation to Virginia Beach. We were able to spend an entire week together and it really was an opportunity to get to know each other in ways that we may not have done otherwise. Yes, my father did have to go to a couple of conferences during that time, but still he was able to spend more time with us than he typically did.

Hi Dorann,
My favorite childhoom memory was the stage where my parents train me to become responsible in life. i learned how to cook, wash clothes, take care of my siblings and house chores. my parents did bring out the best in me. i become independent so early in my life.
we had lots of happy memories together. we too used to go to the beach, cook out and go to the church together.

I think that it is very interesting that you chose the fact that your parents taught you to be independent to be the most memorable event from your childhood. I think that because you hold this fact in such high regard means that you are a great woman.

I think that it is very important to bring out the best in our children and to be as effective as we possibly can as parents. I acknowledge the fact that no two parenting styles are the same, but if we work hard with our children then they will be respectable adults in the future.

Hi dorannmwin,
Childhood memories are the sweet memories one doesn't forget in there lives. My most memorable incident was when we had been to the vocational trip from school and that was also the last year with school and every one had a different career plans. We enjoyed that trip very much.
Have a great day

To have been able to have that special time to spend with your friends before you all separated your paths is a great thing and surely a memory that will always remain ingrained in your mind.

Though you don't have a lot of fond childhood memories, it is great to hear that your most fond memories involve your family.

My favorite childhood memory start when i am at the age of 4 years old as I have a lot of friends which i dearly miss that they all adults now and some get married so their is less contacts. i do miss the childhood play being playmates and uses to built a tree house where their was a swing and for the whole day were all happy to make a role playing being a family or parents then having children and doing all funny stuffs like cooking, serving and cooking then have to play those TV series or movies character actress imitating the way they speak. Their are lot of dramas, action, adventure and fantasy involves since we also like to heard the story telling by my grandmother and it is reall the fun part which I dearly miss.

I too sometimes miss the times of carefree play that I had with my friends when I was a child. I'm still friends with some of those people today, but I've also lost contact with many friends from my childhood as well.

My favourite childhood memories mostly involve trains. we moved around a lot when I was a child. My father was on the railways, and as such was entitled to what we called a "free pass" once a year for the family, to go anywhere in South Africa. So that's how we travelled. I so much enjoyed those trips - the sound of the metal wheels on the tracks, the sound of the whistle echoing across the air (especially at night), the smoke trail across the sky (they were steam trains), the scenery flowing by. My sisters and I would stand in the corridor early in the morning, as we crossed the Hex River Mountains in the Western Cape, to get the first glimpse of Table Mountain (at Cape Town). These are memories that will always be with me, because they bring to memory times we spent together as a family. My parents are long gone physically, but these memories keep them close to my heart.

Those sound like wonderful memories. My son is addicted to trains and I know that if we were ever to have an opportunity like what you've described I know that it would be ingrained into his mind for life.

My most favorite thing of all was when I had a birthday and we went to visit my Aunt and Uncle who lived by the sea.
My Uncle gave me a surprise present and it was a Dolls house that he had made.
It was a Bungalow with brick paper on the outside, tile paper on the roof, a little chimney and opening doors and windows.
It was like being given treasure.
We didn't get very many expensive toys as children and this was such a big thing to be given all to myself.
My Aunt was a very kind lady ,she would show me all the flowers in her little garden.
Their cottage smelled lovely and everything was bright and sunny(of course it was always summer when we visited)).

That is a beautiful memory. I was never lucky enough when I was a young girl to have a dollhouse of my own, so I would say that you were very lucky indeed. I can almost picture your dollhouse.

I don't have much good childhood memories, only bad ones for reference, but I do have just a few, and I mean a FEW. Back in middle school, I remember that I used to do the morning announcements before the actual school activities began. Also, I was one of a few chosen in elementary school to not only go on a field trip to a dinosaur museum, but also to Charleston, SC to go on a tour at Fort Sumter. That's two field trips. Up until a few years ago the only thing that brought back memories was a battery-operated crystal ball where I had to press my fingers against two metal points on the side of the crystal ball. It had the label of "Ask Me...", a white ball, black bottom , etc.

I'm so sorry to hear that you don't have a lot of fond memories of your childhood. I know that not all people are as fortunate as I was to have a great childhood and I always feel sad for those that didn't have it.

I also tend to think that the memories that we carry forward from our childhood also have a significant impact on the people that we become as adults.

I have lots of childhood memories too that I cherished until now. My super favorite childhood memory was my life in a farm. I grew up in a farm because my father had a one-hectare from he inherited from my grandparents. We lived their for almost three years, it was lots of fun, I would go down to the rice fields to catch some butterflies. Me and my younger sister would swam into the shallow river with very clear water. Life in the farm was very peaceful, calm and with very fresh air, I missed those days and every now and then, my mind is still longing to go back to the farm and stayed there for a while.

My favorite memory was when I a year old and my mom would have story time. My mom would read to us every night at 7:00PM and it lasted an hour. My brother and I took turns picking out books for my mom to read. She had a calendar on the wall where she wrote down who picked the last book so that person got to pick first the next day. I loved story hour and feel that tis is what influenced me to love to read. When I have children of my own my husband and I will be doing this as well.

That is a really neat memory. I don't remember having an organized story hour like that, but the times that my parents read to me are times that I still value today. Like you, I think that having my parents read to me when I was a child influenced the love of reading that I have today.

As far as I am concerned, I think the most un forgetable thing in my childhood is about the go hiking with my best friends.
I still can remember it clearly that we went at a very time of the day. And when we began to move out, I take alot of junk food with us ,which can make sure that we have plenty of things to eat when we are out. I enjoy that hiking so much .The most enjoyable thing.

dorannmwin I grew up on a farm in 'South Dakota and we grew a lot
of fruits and veggies. I look back with fondness on the strawberrymornings and watermelon afternoons. We would all go down to
the strawberry patch early in the June morning and pick the rips strawberries, careful to pick with the stems on so they would keep'
longer. The smell of ripe strawberries lush and ruby red in the summer warmth is a delicious fragrance indeed. we would get them in the coolness of our house, where we would sell what we did not eat fresh or freeze. In the afternoon we would go pick the huge ripe lucious watermelons, green plain and green and white striped ones. I would beg my grandad to let me ride atop the melons in the wheelbarrow. what fun for a little farm girl who was a real tomboy. On the farm we all worked together but to me it never really seemed like work, as we were picking the sweet delicious produce we would eat every day. fresh tomatoes, green beans, peas, sweet corn, cucumbers, lettuce,on and on, fruits like melons and muskmelons, cherries and plums, and loads of strawberried and in the fall bushels of apples. red and pink and juicy and oh so good to eat.

My favorite childhood memory...does moving out of my parents house count? I was pretty happy that day, we used to go to the lake every once in a while, I always got sun exhaustion, and sunburned and it was never fun, for the next few days, but that day or two was always good. Never really went on many vacations, oddly enough, when I think about this. My favorite times seem to be playing in the snow banks out on the sides of roads, and in parking lots.
Cheers, I appreciate you.

Mine is getting my baby brother. We adopted him. Well, I didn't, my folks did, but the story starts with me asking for a baby brother because some kid at church just got a baby sister. We were headed to Yellowstone when we got the call he had been born. (That kid owes me a vacation!) I remember a tall older gentleman with BIG hands taking my hand. We walked down a long hallway to the nursery. We stopped to look at babies. A nurse held up a baby and the man asked me "Do you want that baby?". I said yes and we took him home.
I always thought that I picked out my baby brother....... It's the best memory ever!

That is a great memory. Now you have to call your brother and let him know that he owes you a vacation. I don't so much remember when my brother was born, but I remember when my sister was born and it is a vivid memory in my mind.
