I think it should be optional. It will teach them that not being where you should be has consequences such as bad grades, reduced scholarships, etc. I didnt go to one of my classes much and ended up getting a C. I accepted that gracefully as I knew it was my fault, but I really could not stand that class. He could have failed me, I got lucky. Just because a class is mandatory does not mean that they will go - in fact it would probably make them less likely to go. Those are usually the worst classes and teachers, strangely enough.

I think attending class or not depends on the type of student and the type of professor. Some types of students learn better when concepts are explained to them so their grades would benefit if they attend lecture. Other students who learn well from reading books wouldn't need to attend lecture. Also it depends on whether attendance is mandatory. Some professors require students to attend lecture while some tell the students that lecture is optional. For me, most of my professors don't require the students to attend lecture but I attend anyways because I learn better that ways.

I think that classes should be optional. In my country university students generally don't have to attend classes. If you want to attend classes, that is fine. If you prefer to study on your own, that is also fine. The important thing that you pass your exams, how the students choose to study is their own decision. I like that part about university, it is one of differences between highschool and university, because while are you are in highschool you have to attend classes, you don't have a choice and you don't have the same freedom that you have as a university student.

When I was in college I always went to class regardless of how sick I was. I remember one time I had a high fever and had an exam that day. I had gotten an A on the exam in spite of the fact that I was sick. I think one should go to class because they will miss out on important information. Sometimes teachers ask test questions based on lectures. One gets more out of school if they attend classes.

According to me it should be made optional. When it is made optional only the interested students will be present in the class. This can help in improving the standard of the class. The students who are interested will get better class. The students who are uninterested will study from their mistakes once they get their results from their exams.

I think it should be optional. I have some really crazy teachers who really dont teach. I find myself hating to go to their class and when I do it just ends up pissing me off. It should be optional I honestly believe that if the proffesor is really that good students will automatically attend
